    Default Supination vs Natural Gait

    I was just looking at the pics from WC(up) and noticed that all the players from China seem to supinate quite heavily. I have very neutral gait as does Ardy, however this new guy from India who trains with us supinates hugely. The guy from India has very very weak muscles but can somehow cover the court effectively and has huge supination.... is supination an advantage? I guess it makes you stop faster but at greater risk of rolling an ankle due to increased strain on tendons and ligaments. I'm going to look thru a bunch more pics to see. Any thoughts?

    Taufik seems to have natural gait. whereas all the chinese players seem to supinate. I was told while working at superstore that all top sprinters supinate.

    Peter seems to only supinate slightly.....

    Seems like an interesting topic to discuss......... however.. I and perhaps many readers are abit confused.... especially with certain terms.

    I have done some searches on 'gait', Neutral gait, natural gait, supination, supinate, and off course pronation....

    here is the result of my search
    1) Condition (medical) of the feet in pronated and supinated forms.
    2) The movement action of limbs.
    3) Horses

    So what I mean to say is that can you clarify which one of the three are you talking about... or is it a combination of the three.

    ps... still can't see how Gade is 'supinate slightly' ? Are you looking at the rear foot?

    BTW, Eurasian, are you trying to find out what people feel about pronating/supinating the racquet foot or the non-racquet foot?

    1. supination - when the foot rolls outward after heel strike (when heel hits ground while running)

    2. pronation - when foot rolls inward after heel strike.

    3. neutral gait - when there is a roll outward and then inwards.

    You can tell if you supinate or pronate or have neutral gait by looking at a pair of well used walking shoes. If it is worn mostly on outside you supinate, inside pronate. If all around neutral gait. Many people wear orthodics to create neutral gait. Generally if you have flat feet ie no arches you will supinate, while the opposite is true if you have very high arches.

    It seems like Gade supinates slightly b/c by looking at his lunging foot it seems to be going outwards.
