my friend told me... he said it was weird that i always hit it on the top part... my friend says that hitting it in the middle would be easier but i thought i like it better my way... gives me better control n power...

I am surprised that nobody mentioned the speed of the shuttle, or did I overlooked that part? There are some arguments about whether you need more or less repulsion, but if you are returning a netdrop with a netdrop, the speed of the shuttle of course is slow, but you also need little power (or do you???) and where is the balance?
For drop it is normally an answer on a clear with moderate speed of the shuttle, but do you answer an attack or defensive clear, and what kind of the drops that Vip mentioned is most suiteable for what, and does it impact the need for repilsion/control?
My point is just that it not only depends on what stroke you intend to do, also take into consideration your opponent stroke that you are about to return.
