Bbn, u had mentioned that some studio had archive films of old matches. How come they don't convert them to dvd and sell them? I dont see the point having them sitting in a vault collecting dust.

    1) No demand
    2) Financing
    3) No equipment especially Betamax players to convert,
many such beta tape owners in msia, Holland and England without
    machines.

Any Betamax owners in Msia , pls come forward,

Those pictures shown are from videos that several BC members have,
maybe one day they 'll make them available fr download.

Rudy's opponent was none other than the famous Punch Gunalan. If not for his lack of stamina and fitness Punch could have had an equal share of honours with Rudy. Rudy was a product of at least 8-months special training camp for major battles whilst Punch was a mere amateur that characterised almost all Malaysian players at that time.

Is that the Yoneyama Gray? I heard of that racket when I started playing back then. Don't know if that was used by the pros at that time or not.

I played with a steel Yonex racket around '80 or '81. Don't remember what the model number was. It was heavy and my smash was really powerful with it.

Around that time, I think the most used racquet from YY was the 8100 Blacken.

Racquet: This match was played in 1974, cant remember what they used
    then.

Source: This source is not tape but old fashioned film.

By Betamax, I dont mean Videocam I mean the alternative to VHS vcr

used for 1977 to 1980 before Sony lost the tape war.

Betamax vcrs/players are very rare today as Sony has stopped production and has not made spare heads. There are some intereting matches ard so if anyone in Msia /sing has such antique players pls come forward.

my dad still has his old sony betamax. I better tell him not to throw it away. It's amazing how sony has great technology but fail in marketing: betamax, 8mm vcr, DAT, minidisc, APM speaker drivers, and soon SACD, Sony ES never get its recognition from hifi fan.

These pictures look very much like the 1974 AE final between Rudy and Punch. Rudy was lucky to beat Punch whose lack of fitness lost him what would otherwise be his AE win.
Rudy started playing in international competition when he was only 16 years old. Even then he showed the grace and obvious potential of a great player, although he was initially beaten by Tan Aik Huang, whom he later beat with considerable ease when he grew a little older. Rudy started off playing as Rudy Nio (Niohapliane). For reasons that have never been explained he had his name changed to Rudy Hartono, at about the time he started getting the attention of the badminton world. I had followed Rudy's every game and was flabbergasted when out of the blue he turned from Neo to Hartono. I thought it might have been politics.

Anyone in the world has an unwanted betamax player (with a working

head) willing to dump it on me? (wishful thinking).

Cooler says American ones can play only NTSC, so the player must be PAL.

Pls PM me.Not a business deal pls.

    betamax

I know where you can get Betamax material transferred to DVD, VHS etc. I don't own these facilities otherwise I might offer it free. As a freelance TV producer I myself have to rent such edit/transfer facilities by the hour. But they are professional so your precious tapes won't get chewed up or snapped. If you have enough of these tapes, it might be worth packaging the material nicely with graphics. I guess you would be able to sell quite a few copies!
