From what I've seen, Bach was exactly the energetic person that the audience wanted. It's hard not to be like that when thousands of people are cheering you on. IMO, if I were playing and Bach shouted that out to me, I'd be a little upset. Just my opinion.

I agree with Dink that there's probably a cultural difference at play. I think most "traditional" badminton fans are used to seeing the stoic type of players who don't get excited either way. Even though the fans themselves may go bonkers, they don't expect the players to follow their lead. So, when spectators saw a behaviour on the court that's more commonly found in NFL matches following touchdowns, many were quite turned off by it. I admit I was one of them along with practically everyone in my travelling group.

However, that said, this may be a case of the end justifying the means. If somehow Howard's expression of excitement transform into more native-born Americans getting interested in badminton, perhaps it isn't so bad after all, is it?

Actually, Howard is very down to earth and humble. He is one of the nicest guys you can meet. As for him saying "THIS IS MY HOUSE, GO HOME!!!!", it could just be him trying to psych himself up. This is of course the WC and no one expected ANY U.S. team to make it to the quarters, so for Howard to get so excited is understandable, IMO.

I have already seen much worse attitudes.

In the French Open this year, Svetoslav Stojanov shouted several times "**** Off" to his opponents after they had scored a point, then after he killed a feather at the net he shouted it again to his opponents (only one metre away from them or so).
Other than this, he kept looking at them as if he were going to kill them at any moment!

Anyway, the umpire didn't even react and the opponents managed to stay quite cool, they even played at teasing him at the end as they saw he was completely losing his temper. (and they won the match easily in the end)

    Default Mental Improvement

I think as far as with Howard Bach skills, the major changes to his game is his mental. Before this win or pairing with TONY G, he always considers himself a lower escelon / level players maybe 1-2 level below the IBF 5* tournaments. He always doesnt believe he cant reach that point at the top. You know at the world level even when you have all the technical skills at hand but if your mental toughness is weak then you can only go so far. Of course mental toughness can be acquired by playing more tournaments to gain the experience playing against the world top 20 pairs could be useful. But the main thing, do you believe in your self that you can do it ?? Well when you walk into the match facing the world No 1 pair thinking there is no way i could beat them. Then you will not ..... It is like mind over matter as the old saying goes.

I am sure Howard Bach has improved tremendously lately but the major transformation in him is his mental attitude and self confidence has raised to another level. And that give him an edge !!!
