Simon Santoso bt Shoji Sato 15-8, 15-3.

He will face the winner between Agus Hariyanto (HKG) and Bjorn Joppien (GER), currently in the rubber game later. Technically, he should win and face Bao Chunlai in the quarter-final. But, you know Simon....he can play brilliantly in one game and totally screws things up the next game. I am still keeping my fingers crossed.

Team Indonesia's performance is better this time round, with one quarter-final placement and possibly one more from Simon. At least Simon beats a seeded player this time round. I hope Anggun/Yunita can at least take a set from the waning Zhang Jun/Gao Ling tomorrow. A semi-final place will be considered a bonus.

Hmm...I observe that Team England seems to have a good stock of young and upcoming players in the doubles, especially in mixed. Besides Nathan Robertson/Gail Emms, which I currently rate as the no 1 pair in mixed, Team England have 2 other solid senior pairs in Robert Blair/Natalie Munt and Anthony Clark/Donna Kellogg. There are also other young pairs such as David Lindley/Suzanne Rayappan. They should be in the top 20s within the next 1-2 year.

A couple of upsets in WS and as I mentioned earlier, it's almost an all-Chinese field.

    WOMEN'S SINGLES QUARTER-FINAL

Zhang Ning vs Lee Yun Hwa
    Pi Hongyan vs Zhu Lin
Wang Lin vs Wang Chen (MATCH OF THE ROUND)
    Lu Lan vs Xie Xingfang

Pi Hongyan just lost to Zhu Lin 2:11, 3:11 last week at Swiss open

Recent results from Swiss open last week also indicated:

Lu Lan > Xu HW > Wang Lin > Mia
Lu Lan > Xu HW > Zhu Lin > Pi HY

is Lu Lan better than Wang Lin and Zhu Lin ? Some posts said Zhu Lin is the China's #3. I'm wondering why? Wang YH looks best fit to me. but she skipped the current 3 opens :(

A bad start by Simon, he was trailing Bjorn Joppien 7-1 before he leads 8-7.

It's also pretty tight for the other 2 matches between Lee Hyun Il vs Li Yu (12-13) as well as for Kaspar Oedum vs Bao Chunlai (7-9).

Chen Jin continues his impressive form by taking the first set against Ng Wei 15-6.

I don't know. The match is not on live-score anymore. One of the player must had retired??

Once again, Bjorn Joppien leads 7-1 in the second set. Simon is stuck at his first point for very very long!
