    hi guys,

I've read quite a few specs of rackets and there is one thing I've never been
able to figure out. When a racket spec says the balance point of the racket is
at "290mm", does it mean "290mm" from the handle or from the head?

What's the balance point distance that you would call "head heavy"?

    Thanks a lot.

I would not use the balance point to assess whether a racket is head-heavy (or how much).

Static balance is a poor indicator. All you are doing is finding the centre of mass. You really need to find the moment of inertia about the point where you hold the racket in play (ie the handle). This depends on the distribution of weight, not just the centre of mass.

    How to do this?

Swing the racket! It's as good a test as any, and much more accurate than relying on the centre of mass.

I agree with Gollum. However, if you wants to know what is the static balance, then, the measurement should be done from the handle butt end. ;)
