my wife and son have started to play every week, ive looked to buy them some shuttlecocks, but which ones? ive seen speeds, 76, 77, 78 etc ive seen grade A + ive also seen the colour tape on the rubber bottom so whats it all about? i just want to but them some reasonable shuttlecocks cheap but the right speed for two hackers..... cheers william
are they beginners? If so, you may want to start them off with some nylon/plastic shuttles before they "graduate" to feather birds. common plastic birds would be the Yonex Mavis 300 or 350s.
yes they are beginers.......... yes they have only started but like most people having went a few weeks they think they are pros my son wants feathers...... far from answering my question you have added to the confusion with 300 or 350s, what does this mean does every manufacturer have their own lableing system? what are the coloured tape on the round bit at the bottom???? cheers will

The 300 and 350s are different models/types of Yonex Plastic birds: http://www.yonex.com/p_graphic.cfm?ID=119 As to feather birds, there are many companies that sell them. I'm not too sure which ones are available but I think most ppl here in this forum would recommend RSL feather birds for their quality. http://www.rslcanada.com/shuttlecocks/index.htm Maybe the european members can help you out as to where to get them in your area. For Yonex plastic shuttle, the colour tape indicates the speed of the shuttle. Red is the fastest. Blue is the medium speed. Green is the slowest. In the interior of Canada, most people use the Blue tape. I have used the Red tape once in my life. By the way, the Yonex shuttle can come in white or yellow plastic (choose the colour that is the easiest one to spot - i.e. a yellow shuttle against a white wall.)
