i'd say running long distance for a long time is the best way to increase stamina.

... Or eventually, biking ? If you practise for long, and if you "force" with your knees, it may works as well ;)

    Ever tried swimming?

This is a more unconventional method but one I found to be very effective. If you don't like jogging or have health issues relating to it, i.e bad knees etc, then swimming is the best alternative. Already known as the most all-round complete sport to give your entire body a full workout, it is also great because there's no impact on your joints (as you're floating on water!)

Also, you will find your stamina improving when you do laps..water fitness is very different to fitness on the land. My increase in stamina in the water certainly helped me when playing badminton. So give that a go?

    stamina

    Hi Songfunny,
Having good stamina alone will not necessary guarantee u may win the game. But having better footwork in badminton will help u last longer in this game.;)
Remember world champion Han Jian? He was not a good runner but he definitely lasted longer than any fit player who played against him. :p Smart guy using his advantage to his maximum.:D

So far as I know, Some Shanghai local teams improve their stamina by 5000m middle-speed running every morning. Also, they do many net-baseline footworks to improve it.

If you are too lazy to do all those, you can use the gym bike.

    training

I've recently taken to using a stair climbing machine in the gym and find it very effective. Plus it's weight bearing exercise (unlike a bike), which is good. Elliptical trainers are also good, no impact either.

Badminton stamina is not the same as long distance running or cycling stamina.

Badminton is WORK rest WORK rest WORK rest WORK rest
long distance is work work work work work work work work
(where "WORK" is a higher intensity than "work")

    you use different energy systems
I'm sure we've been over all this before somewhere...

    You are so totally wrong!
You can still ride a bike or run with the same technique of WORK rest WORK rest WORK rest WORK rest.
What you do is Sprint, rest, Sprint, rest, Sprint, rest, Sprint, rest, which is the same as WORK rest WORK rest WORK rest WORK rest.

Honestly this kind of training is more of for speed and muscle endurance.

Stamina is the capacity of the body to sustain low level aerobic work for a long period of time. Which are done through swimming, cycling, running, rowing and etc.....

Think about it, if it is not for stamina why do national players have to do middle distance running?

Go do some reading on Energy Systems and Components of Fitness.

we don't have the time to spent on badminton pro's do.
If your a singles player stamina is fairly important. and your training hsould be 50% stamina, 50% interval (work, rest, work....1min work hard, 30secs rest)
doubles players should be 80% interval, 20% stamina....

    i guess...

Is that what you want for badminton?
To sustain low level aerobic work for a long period of time?

    I don't think so.

middle distance is what? 800m and 1500m
over in less than 2 or 4 minutes
is that low level aerobic work for a long period of time?

I would like to know the answer too.

Currently, i skip 5000 times in an hour. I will usually do 1000, rest, 1000, rest, 1000, rest, 1000, rest and 1000 within an hour. Is it enough?

My skip is not jumping on both legs but it is more like the shuffling type.

    Please advise.
