i do not want to have the whole women's association here in BC after me with this post, but just wanting just to get a concensus on whether, when I do play a better looking opponent (meaning the female gender), should i play her as I would a male counter part, or just avoid smashes and go for placement plays and drop shots...i gauge to her to be:

    years of play: 8 months
level of play: beginner-intermediate (high level beginner)
    services: good
    smashes:
not too heavy, but likes to take the birdie early
    stamina: good
drop-shot: fair. donot drop shot often
    base-line clears: fair
forehand: likes to attack the bird
backwand: not much backhand used. weak
    footwork:
    average footwork
    aggressiveness: competative
Apperances on and off court: excellent

Personally I think the best answer is to ask her.
For 8 months female players I only play placement unless she requested otherwise.

The last category is lol. Depends on the girl. Would she find it disrespectable if you didn't go all out on her? Sometimes it's a lose-lose situation. You beat her you lose, you lose against her you lose.

It is strongly advisable not to relate physical beauty with how aggressive your shots should be made against your female opponent, nor correlate beauty with ability.

Like any opponent, you should play based on their abilities compared to you!

    Male Opponent
    Weaker than You - Place
    Same as You - Smash
    Stronger than You - Smash

    Female Opponent
    Weaker than You - Place
    Same as You - Place
    Stronger than You - Smash

Even if she can smash harder than you, the only restriction I would enforce would be no (deliberate) smashes to the body. ;)

    Cheers!

BethuneGuy - that last part is the killer, :D... is distraction part of the game that we should also consider as a genuine tactic??!!!

When playing someone much weaker than you go into the game with something you would like to improve regardless of thier gender. For example when I play somoene who I can beat with my normal offensive game I will try to beat him/her with long rallies, 10 shots or more. Or I'll try to win with deception.

It depends on each individual, as some ppl are more sensitive / competitive / aggressive than others. This apply to both genders. Personally, if I know the opponents well enough, I will try to adjust my level to let the game to be fun (and/or competitive) for both sides. If I don't know the person very well, I will start with more conservative game pace, then adjust according to the game, or per his/her request. ;)

Of course, all the above apply for social / daily pracice / drill type of games. If in a tourny, it might be a bit different. ;)

Well, you wouldn't play women of the opposite seks in a tourny would you, at least not in singles

I think the criterion here should be whether the game is social or competitive. If it's social, then prolong the rallies by all means:p. If it's competitive, then you should do what it takes to win... properly. And that means including body shots:D.

I am quite aversive to body shot given the recent incident with this older gentlman. The guy plays like a lady and immobile. One backhand drive at serve line went to his eyeball! So, body shots must be carefully considered before their execution.

Are you suggesting female players should dress in tight, almost see-through brassiere and thong panties as a way to distract their male opponents on the court?

Why don't we even out the playing field by having the male player take a piece of clothing off every time their side loses the rally! ;) ...

... I can see it now... In the mix-doubles matches, the score is 0-0, the women are in bathing suits while then men look like giant fuzz-balls with all the extra layers of clothing! :D :D :D

    Cheers!

Yes, I totally agree (which I neglected to mention) in a tournament setting. ;)

    Cheers!

Or even better... dress in tight, almost see-through brassiere and thong panties to distract everybody. So what if you distract the whole gym... it's collateral damage, dude!

Unless it's "free for all" type of tourny (i.e. only single and double, but not divided by genders due to limited gym time / participants), it usually means mxd, which is my most participated event. ;)

to me i think it really depends on the personality of the person....she/he could be bad tempered...or good natured...
when i play with players weaker than me i'll usually play below my usual game...especially when playing with girls....

Personally, I find getting beaten by a well placed and/or deceptive shot is much more embarassing. When a better player beats you like that, they are communicating that they are so damn good that they can do tricky shots and not even try, and still beat you.

Getting beaten by a hard, well-placed smash is nothing to be ashamed of, however.

hmmm.... but you were the one to initially placed that vivid image of "someone" - "dress in tight, almost see-through brassiere and thong panties"... seeing how fit and trim you are these days, i thought maybe there is some "closet" fetish showing up...

hahahahaha.... i might definitely try to show up one of these nites to catch you in your "evening's best". hahahahahaha
