What you can do is set up file sharing by setting the sharing option on a particular folder. Are you using WinXP? If so, just right click on the folder, select sharing and security, in the sharing tab check the box that says share this folder on the network. If both computers are using winXP, then this is all you should need to do.

These are just the general steps. Good luck.

I don't use PC anymore (using Mac now) so here is what I remember.

    WinXP.
If you have ZoneAlarm then you MUST shut it down. "Share" the folders, and then click "network." There, you click search and you have "search" in your left panel. Type your other computer's "computer name." You then have the result in the right panel. To access the other computer, double-click on it.

u dont need to shut down zonealarm....u just set the other computer's (on both computers) IP add to trusted zone, tell it to allow sharing and stuff in th trusted zone and then u can see the other computer and share without shutting the whole thing down.

I assume you are using Windows and working on UPstair computer

    1) you need to find out the IP of your downstair computer. (go to downstair computer , open a dos session, and type 'ipconfig')
    2) then you click the 'Map Network Drive' in your Explorer. (not Internet explorer)
    3) then choose any Drive letter.
    4) enter \\10.10.0.1\c$ in folder . (if you want to map the C: drive of the downstart machine.
    5) then it will prompt you the password. (enter user name and password)

that is. Let me know if you have any problem.

Does that then make it neither hidden nor a secret? So it's just a shared?! :p

It's actually a share that's not hidden, just that it wasn't shown or told to anybody explicitly. Furthermore only one with administrator level rights can access to them directly. Otherwise to a normal user, they "don't exist".

Found it by accident when I got too lazy to walk allllllllll the way to the other block to copy some files, so decided to 'tunnel through' and it works.

Told nobody either after that, so I am very much the only guy in the building along with other network masters around the globe who knew it.
