When you recieve a flick serve, what is the best shot to do if both opposing players are side by side? Further more, after recieving a flick serve, I smashed down the line and the opposing player dropped it on my side, but my partner is closer to the shuttle. Who's responsibility is it to recieve the drop?
Depending on the situation, is your opponents stronger or weaker than you? If stronger, never smash because that is what they want you to do, draw you out of position and attack your partner. Against stronger opponents, best to drop in the middle with an aggressive fake smash swing. Make your opponents think that you are going to smash and last minute drop in the middle. This will allow you the recover your position for the next shot. If weaker, smash is ok if you place it between the two players, let them fight for it and maybe setting up a shot for your partner.
ahahaha, that's what I thought, but after playing with some national level people, they expect me to get the drop and we both just stand there
I too would have said your partner....having been flicked the opposing side have given you the attacking advantage by lifting the shuttle (assuming you are quick enough to get back for it), your partner should move to take up an attacking position at the net. If you can only get back enough to hit a clear rather than an attacking smash or drop then you should revert to the side by side defensive positions. Thats how I was always told to position myself, not saying its the right way just the way I had been coached at the time
it would depend on the quality of the flick (length and height). i would try and play a shot toget me and my partner on the attack. i would probably play sides after a flick so it would depend what side the return dropshot is. another factor is how off-balance you are after returning the flick, if you are off-balance then you have less chance of reaching the dropshot.
Depend on how fast and good defence the person is serving. If he is just average, I will cross smash to below the server forehand shoulder. A flick serve means the server has to recover fast back to level position. If he is not fast enough/poor defence, a good cross smash will be ideal.
i don't know if i'm speaking for myself here, but i don't always find it easy to get back in time to smash a flick serve well. also it's not that easy to always cross smash it at a players shoulder . i guess i just need more practise
I sometimes hit cross cout offensive clear to the sever corner if I get a flick serve. It does catch the server off guarded and they usually return a shot to our advantage. Of course you have to mix it and not use it all the time. It works as well if you hit the fast clear to center baseline too as opponents get confused on who to get the shot.
