im probably buying a new racket in a bit and i've narrowed it down to the 99 and the 800-def

and im stuck with the dilema of which to choose...

so if anyone owns them, could you give me some info on which would be better?

if it helps, i'm looking for a well rounded racket but perhaps slightly higher on the power side

From what I've read, the 99 is more head heavy, so it may be better for singles. Lin Dan won with it, so it's not a turkey.

I like both rackets but prefer the AT800-DE. I think it's currently the best racket Yonex makes. It's an all-around, excellent racket. Don't be fooled by the "defensive" name, a few people have said I've hit my hardest smashes with the DE.

The 99 is a very good all-around racket and most people are probably happy with it and have not tried other rackets...such as the 800-DE. :p

    thanks for the replies

the first thing i noticed about the DE when i had it for a spin was that it was actually fairly flexible

looking at Yonex's catalog the MP99 has a bit more power then the DE

and yes the 99's colour scheme is very attractive

Don't go my Yonex's specs, it's only a guideline. I feel I get more power from the DE but YMMV. :)

I've held and played with bolth rackets you mention here. the DEF I had was a 4U, good racket. But with the MP99 I lend from my friend, I found that I lacked the power to swing it as fast as i wanted (well, I could do it, but not a whole game  ). That said, I agree with Dan, the AT-800Def is a great racket, can't really go wrong with it
