I have this one problem. My shots are traveling too slow, especially my shots that require more strength, such as clears and smash. My clears goes the distance from baseline to baseline, but the clear goes too slow. This gives my opponent the opportunity to move back and get behind the bird. Any tips? I am currently playing for a highschool team and some would say I am a N/D level player. My racquet is the NS8000, so it is definitely not the equipment. BTW, I am 5'7" with a medium size body frame.

A good (high) clear is a defensive shot that goes to your opponent's baseline, giving "you" the time to get back into position.

I presume what you are looking for is the "attacking clear" in which it is very simular to a clear but the projectory is flatter, reaching the baseline quicker, thus giving less time for your opponents to setup for the shot, causing a lift or a weak return.

    Cheers!

Scott, why post here? Just ask Don or Paul to help or Alex or James. :p

Actually, from watching you clear, I can tell you why you are not executing your attack clear the way you want. You need:

    1) Less angle, say a 20-30 degrees angle (depending) as opposed to 45 degrees.

    2) More wrist, snap your wrist and power through the shot, don't just slowly follow through or go through the motions.

Given the resources he has, it is more useful asking in person :)
No matter what we do online, the limitation is that we can't demonstrate in person :)

i think you are whacking the shuttle too high during clears, giving your opponent sufficient time to get to the back. this is good when you YOURSELF need the time to get back into position, but definitely not the thing to do if u want to 'get the initiative'

so if your opponent is not too tall, you can actually clear with a smaller angle so as to make the shuttle get to the back in the much shorter time.

one thing i learnt from experience is that EVEN when the opponent is tall enough to intercept a lift/clear if he jumps, he might actually decide not to, and instead move quickly to the back to get a better hit.

Scott (TheAsianDude88) has world class coaches at his disposal. He pays good money each week to learn from them, I find it ironic he's asking here when he can just ask them. Just doesn't make sense.

Maybe Scott's been studying too hard for finals. :p

i no longer have time for training with private coach or to go to the club and ask for help. now it is practice at school since it is badminton season and AP study sessions, which take up a lot of time. the competition in the school is pretty high, so i want to improve in the quickest way possible. the coach also does favorites, and i aint on that list. the coach usually just helps the people who he favors :(
