Hey, i got a match coming up soon and this guy keeps doing flick serves on his back hand in singles. I hate it since i can't get a quick smash done fast enough nor, am I able to drive it... What's more, it actually reaches the base line and i am unable to get behind it . Can someone give me some tips ? Thx and much appreicated.
why smash the serve? Do the clear shot, or drop shot if you can maintain the offensive. Singles tactics is not to smash your opponent out, since you still have to cover the full court.
Could someone explain to me what a flick serve is? I'm not very experienced. Is it a backhand serve that goes deep mainly generated from a flick of the wrist?
Hey Greenman, that's more or less right. It can be a forehand serve too, the idea is that the server flicks the birdie over the receiver's head at the last second. Usually it is used only once in a while, to keep your opponent from getting in a rhythm of rushing the short serve.
Stand in middle of court, offensive clear/defensive clear depending on how well you get to the shuttle
That sounded kinda wierd to me. If u'r playing single, yr recieving positoin should be relatively near the center of the court There shouldn't be a problem getting to a serve no matter where its played. unless, - your face read "I'm going to rush the net and smack u down as soon as u serve" - u might be standing too close to double's recieving postion - your body react too early beore he actually plays the serve, making you easy target for flicks Remember your opponent using a back hand style serve doens't means he's gonna serve short.
