which noise would you find more intimidating and impressive? the sharp "ping" of a bg66 or bg85 or a "pow" from a thicker string such as bg80? also what tension do you think will make the most noise from an average smash?

well to me id take around 22lbs and higher but it mostly comes from practise of smash and arm strength. Also try to find the tension you are at b/c everyone is different ^.^

    Impressive: 30lbs. of BG-66 or BG-85 "ping".

Intimidating: 20-22lbs. of BG-80 "BOOM!!!" 25lbs. if you're really good.

Based on experience, it's not so much the racket, string, and string tension set-up, it's the person swinging the racket and the shuttle. If you have racket speed, it doesn't matter what you use, you'll get an impressive sound out of the impact of the shuttle. Use a tourney grade shuttle and it will sound better. :)

The best example of strength and speed is lefty Yau, the dude who stayed at GGBC for a short period. His jump smash produces an exceptional boom similar to an exploding bomb .

BG80 had a POCK sound at 28LB's. It didn't sound impressive as every time I heard it I thought the string was about to break. MicroLegendXL at 15/16LB has a THRACKK sound, a bit like the sound immediately after a lightning flash. I am getting to like that sound as what follows is a shuttle close to lightning speed :)

Well any string will sound impressive if used by someone with a gorilla arm. I don't think I will ever develop such an arm. In any case my arm has grown so used to the soft pampering of Ashaways, playing with Yonex strings on a racket is a bit like playing with a plank.
