is this a type of squid? I might have if the color of the thing is red. back home, which taste like normal squid texture wise. same texture as octopus...hmmm...takoyaki...

those squid are f***ing horrifying. They don't seem like they even belong on earth. The stories about them scare me. Diving is fun but those scare me more than sharks now. They seriously look like aliens. its funny how tho that they eat us in the ocean but we eat them on land. its almost like someone decided that b/c they eat us we should start eating them. seriously why would anyone ever decide when they pulled it out of the ocean to eat it. looks posionous. i love squid tho... normal squid.

the even bigger squid, can't remember its scientific name (AKA Kraken), apparently gets in fights with sperm whales! Crazy like the biggest animal in the world! Next time I goto mexico I think I want to try catching a squid but I'm definately not getting near it onboard the boat... The pic of the guy holding that massive squid... what if it really wasn't 100% dead and like shot the guy in the face with ink then wrapped its tentacles around his head and made him fall into the ocean. The plot of the movie is related to a Chinese restaurant where they eat everything, its really sad tho... its a Tony Jaa movie, the action sequences are sweet.
those are not the squid I've eaten. the one I've had was red in colour, small, and ussually sold salted or fresh. the salted one is always sold dry and can be store for weeks before being cooked. Sometime or anykind of poor quality salted squid back home is always tough like rubber.
MMMMmmm..........I like squid but that is crazy.....If I made calamari rings out of those they would still be too big to even use as hola-hoops,lol Did you know squids are intelegent? and display problem solving ability? I have seen this on a squid documentory: They put a small live fish in a jar of water and put it in a squid tank........................about an hour later the squid had unsrewed the lid and entered the jar.........it entered the jar a ate the fish! They noted that as the squid wrapped its tenticles around the jar and tried to apply pressure to it......by accident in twisting and contorting the squid 'relised' hey something moved on this object containing the fish when i did this....the squid felt the lid move and continued to do it....untill the lid came off! After that, every time the put a jar in the water with a fish in it the squid did not have to re-learn how to open it....it remembered and did it quickly! now that is scary! So.........armor, cage or what ever the diver is using for protection be aware the squid has the capasity to 'problem solve' to get what it wants.
Bingo LongReach made a good point. Squids are very intelligent. I have seen squid and octopus documentary in which our tenacle friends have the ability of capturing and eating a live crab. The crab is armored with an exo-skeleton. Imagine our hero diver staying with the same squids for a few months . It is possible the creatives will learn and adapt. They might find a way to defeat those armors . One a side note, I think it's much harder to defeat a squid cage.

Yeah dude very true! In the story about these squids it the diver said that the squids hit him with the tenticles a number of times........sounds like the squids were 'testing' this new unknown 'possible food source'. They have a high potential i feel to comunicate efficiently with each other......through their color change and patterns.......color and patterns to us, full sentance to each other for them maybe. The first squid hit him.......hey fellow squid 'give this thing a whack dudes, my tenticles didn't pierce.....you try' , if an animal has the capasity to problem solve then it is silly to think they are unable to communicate with each other as problem solving requires more intellegence. It may be 'harder' for them to defeat the squid cage........if they can unsrew a jars lid.........could they learn to open a catch on the cage to open it.............lol..........I wouldn't get in that cage! cosidering the squid in the jar opening experiment learnt to screw the lid off anti-clockwise straight away for all the concective openings of the jar.....It's technique improved! I think due to the fact squids have tentacles that can hold and grip things, its likelyhood to being able to use 'tools' is viable.....just a matter of time. And for you Cooler..........seems like your plan is to eat them before they eat you hehe. Yes it is well documented that they hunt and kill sharks with deadly proficiency........They have specialised techniques for different prey! MMMmmmm.......i wonder if you can teach them to play badminton! they could hold a racket in each tenticle!....lol

I ordered the Calamari rings........hehe........All this talk was making me paranoid whether us humans were in fact on the top of the food chain............hehe. LOL i saw some guys catching squid off a pier(jetty/warfe) yesterday......not quite that big though. Thanks for the heads up on calamari stocks in the ocean, they seem to be still abundant so i can continue eating them. I just love Japanese style braised squid. It is very interesting to see that they are spreading around the globe....hopefully to an ocean near me All this global warming may be helping them spread through the changing ocean currents tempreture.
