That's great news! I'm expecting only a few top tier players to join the tournament so that news about Chunlai coming over is most welcome.

    sigh ......

It's just too bad that most of the players who I, and I'm sure most Filipino badminton fans were hoping to see play are not joining the Philippine Open. They are LCW, Bao Chun Lai, Chen Hong, PG, KJ, etc., in other words those who we get to see on TV only.

I would say that the tourney turned out to be "medyo supot" meaning "falling short" (in Filipino) of my initial expectations. But then again, who knows, the matches might just turn out to be quite exciting.

Well, having no Chinese players means that there will at least be some drama in the women's events unless they decide to send their 3rd string women, in which case you get to see the entire non-Chinese field get demolished by a bunch of nobodies from the nation that wins everything. Sort of a worst-case scenario. I think the women's matches should be exciting with the best of Indonesia and Malaysia - and, who knows, maybe Thailand or some European countries - battling it out for gold. One thing I like about the Korean Open is that if I have time off during the tournament, I can take in the early rounds. This means you get to see more matches and you see a bunch of players you've heard about but never see on television (or on streamed broadcasts of someone else's TV stations as so many of us are relegated to). I mean, when was the last time you saw Wong Mew Choo, Agus Hariyanto, Kennevic Asuncion, Dicky Palyama, Anders Boesen, Kuan Beng Hong, Sairul Amar Ayob, Pullela Gopichand, Ong Ewe Hock or Mohammed Roslin Hashim on TV streaming or otherwise? I mean you see your world #12's on the IBF rankings every time you look but only big tournaments are televised and usually only the quarter-finals and later or semis and later so usually #12 in the world has lost by the time the TV coverage starts. Some of those 2nd-tier players are really exciting to watch. One of the best matches I saw was Dicky Palyama beating Bao Chunlai in Korea and Sairul beating Roslin was pretty amazing, too. Enjoy the tournament. I hope you get a chance to see the action live.
