What do you prefer and where are most of your skills? Do you prefer playing at the net or in the rearcourt and why? Personally I'm better at the net because I like to use a lot of net shots and my kill is perhaps my best shot. I can do the kill backhand everytime and love using cross court nets (which I can also do backhand). I think my reactions are fast and that's why I like it at the net. It's also more exciting having that shuttle shoot past you at the speed of light! Right in the thick of the action! lol However when it comes to rear court play for some strange reason I find it difficult to decide on the right shots to play sometimes. It's as if I have less time at the back! lol What about you?
I would consider the rearcourt position to be much harder to play. First, one needs to be in the right position to hit good shots, so gotta get used to moving alot. Second, there alot more area/wider angle to cover if one does make a bad shot allowing the opponent to drive the return to the other side... guess who's gonna get that one?
I'm OK at the net. My cross-court play could be tighter. I prefer to play at the rear. On a good day, that is
i prefer the rearcourt more coz most of my points come from there as i smash alot, usually cross-court smashes. Overhead cross-court smashes can be very tricky and useful. besides smashes, i also like to drop.when dropping, i would jump up as high as i can as if i m goin to smash but slice the shuttle for a drop. i don use tat often fearing tat my opponent would noe.
hi guys, well with me been 6'3 in height i find been at the net quite tricky alltho my opponents allways say they find it very intimidating as i can intercept a lot of shots. personally though i prefer rear court play as my best shot is my smash / jump smash which has a good angle and a lot of power. normally if my opponent manages to return my smash it goes up high for another go or pops up for my partner at the net to kill. also from the rear court its good to smash one then fake a smah and drop it, slice it whatever - keep the opoponent guessing. trouble is with rear court though is youve allways got to be on your toes ready to move to either corner as you are effectively covering a lot more of the court but get in the right place and play the right shot and bingo - youre on to a winner!
I've tended to be a back court guy given my power, but have spent the last year working on my net game so I'm more comfortable at the front.
I am ok when playing at the back but i suck big time when i am at the net. Most of the time, I am just a pseudo player acting like i am playing. Successful doubles team has at least one good player at the net. For example, Tony Gunawan, Kim Dong Moon, Park Joo Bong.
I also suck at netplay! I usually have quite a strong smash, and tight drops, and am also fairly quick, so I'm much happier at the back of the court. With net play, I tend to get to close to the shuttle and play it more to the side than in front of me - an overhang from my tennis days.
I prefer to play at the net b/c its so reflex and anticipation oriented, and physically much easier. However I'm cursed with a good jump smash so I'm probably more back oriented.
I stand outside the court so I don't hold my partner back Is the art of dinkerage not limited to half court and net play? Well...we all have our problems (!)
