Oh, York is quite far away from where I live, I think I live somewhere quite near to the centre of Leeds. I normally play at Round Hegian, do you have your post code, mine is lS6.

    'In'famous area!

LS6 is pretty large but it's about a 20 minute walk to the shops from Hyde Park.

Does the local league still play with plastic shuttles?

Oh, so you do know the club there in Roudhegian??? Yeah, they still use plastic shuttles for clubnights (monday, wednesday and saturday), but on the Sunday, they use feather and there're quite lots of good players as well, where do you play??? I'm looking for good players, I dont mind losing :p .

I've been playing for Horsforth badminton club for the past year now and have found it to be a good standard (there's even a few county players amongst us). Strangely we are not actually based in Horsforth but play at Harewood instead on some rather nice courts at Gateways school. We have club night on mondays from 7:30 if you're interested.

    Hey,

I also live in Leeds LS6 and I want to find someone to play with. I have been playing badminton for 13 years in France (national competitions and championships). But the bad news is that I am a girl...:) No matter if you are a man or a woman, I am simply eager to find someone to play with in this area.

    See ya!

    Clubs in leeds, etc

    Hi,

I used to play in the Leeds league when they used plastics - this has now changed thankfully!

I am moving back to Leeds at the end of Jan 07 and would be happy to meet some new folk and play some badminton. I have a few friends in the area playing, so I am sure we could sort something out.

I will probbably go back to play for my old club - the Unviversity staff, who are based, unsurprisingly, at the unviversity sports centre (Tues & Fri nights). I think they have a few teams, the strongest being Div 1 mens.

You may find other people to play with at the uni, such as the sudent BUSA teams. From my experience of captaining one of these teams I can say that some players will only want to play with their regular team mates, but always worth asking.

Finally I know that Headingley have a Div 1 team. From what I hear the strongest players are mostly Malaysian engineering students, who don't always turn up to practice (Beckets Park Met sports centre). Apparently they can also often be found at the Uni sports centre mentioned above, playing amongst themselves. A friend of mine joins them regularly and they are quite friendly and open apparently - although you will need to be playing at a good league level.

Finally, I am fairly sure that you can find league results for Leeds on the web, which will fill you in on the various competitive clubs.

I hope to be living down in Kirstall soon, so give me a shout.

    Rich

    Anyone want to play then?

    Hi,

I am now living in Leeds and playing quite regularly - sometimes doubles with clubs and sometimes singles with a my friend Dave.

Unfortunately I have not had any responses from the previous post...

Was discussing with Dave trying to get more people involved in some informal sessions, a mix of singles and some doubles, so thought I'd ask again.

Ideally it would be good to build a group of players who are of a reasonably advanced standard who have perhaps played competitively in leagues in Leeds or elsewhere. This is not an essential prerequisite, but I have said this with two things in mind:
    - A consistent standard amongst the group will make for better games
    - Better games help you to improve further, which (personally speaking) is why I am trying to organise this.

Anyway, let me know if you are interested. The venue would probably be the Carnegie sports centre in LS6.

    Cheers. Rich

    Hiya Rich!

Thanks for your invitation but I'm now back to France for good to carry on with my studies.
During the year, a friend of mine introduced me to Headingley Badminton Club which was very close to my place and consequently quite convenient.
Now that you mention Dave (long hair, very funny and talkative on the court? Is it him?), we might have met on Mondays at the Carnegie sports center...

Good luck in your search for players.
    Bye

i think richard h & dave at the leeds league were trying to organise some sort of regular singles session last summer & there wasn't much interest. Could be worth trying them to see if their still up for it as their more your standard. Lydia at uni staff should have their contact numbers.

If your playing at Carnegie try sundays - the staff are often very lax regarding finishing times, unlike their weekday counterparts.
