It seems like that i have no power with my smash even though i tried the smash with "arm pretend to throw a bird" -then "snap wrist"... my smash still have no power.... i've been trying to get some power for my wrist by flicking with a 591ml water bottle...(this seems stupid)...then..my muscle got bigger..O___O" but...doesnt seem to help with my smash power...><" also...is it because of my height that i cant seem to get the right angle to smash? im only 5'2....@___@" coaches from my high school team keep telling me to get some angles to my smashes...but...i dont really get what does it mean by getting the right angle? all i know is i gotta hit it at the highest point i can reach...but...what's with the angle? hmm...does slicing help with my smashes since my smashes lack of power... :crying: help please..><
pull back all the way... and when u r at the highest point of catching the bird flick ur wrist.. not before cathcing it...or u'll lose power
so when u release ur arm from pulling back...release slowly until u r about to make contact with the bird
i dont get how u release slowly?if u release slowly...how m i suppose to hit the bird with power? just with the wrist?
3 things can affect your smash ! - position , are you set properly ? - impact point, you should hit the birdie at which your racket produce max impact - do not forget to follow up motion using your upper bosy strength. the danger to learn from reading the text is misinterprete what the author trying to convey, my advise is get a good coach, ask the coach to show you how to do it properly.. the most powerful smasher in my club is very skinny, but he was coach by former world class player when he was in high school..
Developing better smashes is not just through the snapping of the wrist. A whole bunch of other factors come into play. This is just the simplified explanation.... (a) are you gripping properly (b) how are your feet placed (c1) where is your torso facing as you bring your racquet back (c2) weight transfer (c3) counter balance w/ non-racquet hand (d1) torso twist (d2) leading with the elbow (d3) tucking-in of your non-racquet hand (e1) extension of the elbow w/ hand above shoulder (e2) shifting of your weight (f1) flexion of the wrist (f2) contacting the shuttle high and in front of you at "11 o'clock" (g1) follow-through in the direction desired then to non-racquet hand side (g2) further shifting of your weight with racquet foot stepping forward (1) the throwing motion of a baseball is simular as long as you don't release near the ear, or like throwing a dart, you need to reach high up (2) the higher the point of contact, the steeper the smash will be as suppose to contacting the shuttle near head level will make the smash flatter (3) slicing will no long be a smash but a drop shot Cheers!
a coach told me that the racket should be facing inward for the forearm (overhead) ready position. whenever i do this, i feel i am kind of slicing the bird. however the coach told me that im just thinking that and that it is really hitting it flat. this gets me pretty confused on the overhead stroke
WOW! thanks! but i still got a few questions.. a) should i hold the grip closer to the racquet head so that i can gain more power and control for my smash? or hold lower so that i can use the racquet's swing to gain more power? b) my friend told me to face my left toes towards the spot that i will hit at...is it right? c) @___@ what's a torso? hehe thanks alot!~
You can have more angle in ur smash by using ur wrist .To improve ur angle , ask a friend or coach to feed you shuttles, then smash until you can get the angle you but starting with weak but sharp angled smashes then when u got it, slowly increase the power of your smashes. I have watched and played with U-21 female state players before, they use alot of ur wrist for smashing and it was powerful and sharp. I do noe that Bao Chun Lai using his wrist only smash sharply especially cross-court smashes.
Regarding the topic.. Does racket contribute significantly to a smash ? I have no idea what my racket models are but im hoping it aint SO significant to the point where its disrupting my game.
hold at near the bottom of the racket, never smash holding it high coz its ALOT weaker and slower but iuno maybe a bit more accurate, the only time i recommend holding it very high is for a back hand drop or short swing And the torso is like right above ur hips but its like on ur back, anyways im 5"3 and i can smash perfectly so the height isnt the problem, its the techique. 1 - always stand sideways before beginning the smash and turn your body or rotate you body as you swing (easier if you see this step) 2 - time it right and swing trying to make impact on the highest point and right after that snap hard and follow through 3 - use your body weight to help increase power, lean slightly forward with reaching for the highest point 4 - oh and get ready before the bird even gets close to you to help The racket does not contribute alot, unless you are comparing a cheap 3 piece bad, grip, very loose strings and super heavy racket to a umm very crazy racket, So besides that the smash requires techique, a racket isnt going to make you smash
