not sure about the chinese playing here, however, I saw some japs and malaysians. Most of the malaysians ladies doubles have lost to the Indonesians. That tall girl Lydia Cheah? She also lost in doubles in the second round to some unknown Indonesian pair.

    gajahmada international shutlecock???

An interesting note I found after doing a search,

The Shuttlecock used for this tourney was = GajahMadah International.

Any opinion on the quality of this shuttle and is it worthy of International tournament use???

& the multi million $$$ Yonex sponsorship Indoneisa gets, I'm just very surprised yonex Shuttles are not being used...

    Anybody with info???

    Thanks in advance.

Gajahmada is a well known brand in Indonesia. I've seen it sold at major retail stores as well as small mom&pop shops. Probably a lot of badminton clubs there are using it as well. I personally can attest and have used that brand of shuttlecock before. And I know Halim Haryanto, who is now coaching here in the U.S. at OCBC, have used it here in the state.

However, when I brought some over here to the U.S., for some reason when using it the speed/flight of the shuttle is quite slow. At least the ones that i brought over, I might have bought the wrong speed one. :p
But it could also be due to humidity factor, as Indonesia(right at the equator) vs. U.S. (much higher than the equator)..so perhaps it's more suited to be played over there than in places outside of the equator line..

Perhaps if i have a chance, i'll take a picture of the tube of that particular brand to share with you guys..

It's semi final now. predict winner is in bold.

    MS
Tomy Sugiarto (ina) vs Jeffer rosobin(ina)
Adnan fauzy(ina) vs Shinya Ohtsuka (jpn)

    WS
    Silvi Antarini(ina) vs Sachiyo Imai(jpn)
    Pia Zebadiah(ina) vs Norsyahliza Baharum(mas)

Pia VS Baharum is very interesting match I think. Baharum have the edge. She ever beat Maria Kristin and took one set when played against LU Lan(chn) a few mount ago. But I hope Pia win:)

That's good news for Pia! She has once again proven herself to be one of the future star for Indonesia. I hope PBSI starts sending her to 3-4* tournaments this year, starting from Phil and Indonesia Open just after the Thomas Cup.

Too bad Fauzi lost in 2 close sets......but Tommy has done well to beat Jeffer. I thought Tommy has left the Pelatnas for good?

yes, he has. during that tourney, PBSI representative approached him to persuade him to come back to pelatnas, that what i read from local news.

here is the quote in indonesian "Di tengah penyelenggaraan Jakarta Terbuka ini pula muncul kabar pihak pelatnas sedang melakukan pendekatan dan menginginkan Tommy Sugiarto kembali ke Cipayung. Namun, langkah ini terbentur masalah administrasi"

    Jakarta Satellite 2006 Finals

Indonesia swept all the titles...and good news for Tommy Sugiarto, Pia Zebadiah as well as Hendra Gunawan/Joko Riyadi as they won the men's singles, women's singles and men's doubles titles respectively. First title for all of them I believe...and hopefully signs of more promosing stuffs from them in the near future.

    MEN'S SINGLES
Tommy Sugiarto bt Shinya Ohtsuka 21-17, 21-14

    MEN'S DOUBLES
    Hendra Gunawan/Joko Riyadi bt Tri Kusharyanto/Bambang Supriyanto 21-12, 21-19
-- finally a Satellite title after two defeats in the final of the Malaysia Satellite in 2004 and 2005. Time for them to be sent to more 4-5* tourneys and go up to the top 20 by the end of the year.

    WOMEN'S SINGLES
Pia Zebadiah bt Imai Sachiyo 21-12, 21-18
-- Pia bt Lydia Cheah and Norsyahliza Baharum en route to the final. She is definitely Indonesia's no 1 prospect in women's singles!

    WOMEN'S DOUBLES
    Nitya Krisinda/Nadya Melati bt Purwati/Meiliana Jauhari 21-14, 21-17
-- second Satellite title for Nitya/Nadya...after their success at the India Satellite last year. They have slowly emerged as the no 3 women's doubles pair in Pelatnas right now. Possibly a top 20-30 ranking by end of the year?

    MIXED DOUBLES
    Lingga/Yulianti bt Enroe/Devi Sukma Wijaya 23-21, 21-16
-- both still unknown at this stage and Indonesia does have quite a number of mixed pairs, including the World and Asian champion: Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir.

jug8man, you should know more abt this brand than me since you live in Indo..hehe;)
again the shuttle flies a bit slow here in the U.S., for some reason and the speed is 78..but i'm sure it flies fine over there in Indo..If i remember, I think i bought each tube for around $3-5 US dollar..
anyways, i finally took some pics of the Gadjah Mada brand, sorry if the pics are a bit late and not all are in focus..
