Asian Badminton Championships 2006: Day 2 (29/03)
The first round will start tomorrow and here's a few interesting tie. As usual, predicted winners are in bold.
Chetan Anand vs Kennevic Asuncion
Ng Wei vs Hendra Wijaya
Lee Tsuen Tseng vs Poompat Sapkulchananart (the Thai beat Sony in Jaipur)
Alamsyah vs Kendrick Lee
Arvind Bhat vs Sairul Amar Ayob
Nguyen Tien Minh vs Shoji Sato (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- it will not be a shock if the upcoming Viet manages to beat the Japanese
Anup Sridhar vs Boonsak Ponsana
Lu Yi vs Simon Santoso -- a tough first test for Simon
WOMEN'S SINGLES -- surprisingly, nearly all the matches are interesting
Wang Chen vs Julia Wong
Wang Yihan vs Soratja Chansrisukot
Eriko Hirose vs Chien Yu-Chin (MATCH OF THE ROUND)
Lydia Cheah vs Saina Nehwal
Cheng Shao-Chieh vs Lee Yun Hwa
Li Li vs Wong Sin Yee
Jiang Yanjiao vs Yu Hirayama
Trupti Murgunde vs Xing Aiying
Meemek Monthila vs Kanako Yonekura
Chen Li vs Wong Meow Choo
Jun Jae Youn vs Yip Pui Yin -- Jun is a qualifier
Lee Hyun Jin vs Seo Yeon Hee -- bad draw for Korea
Shen Ye/He Hanbin vs Sudket Prapakamol/Patapol Ngernsrisuk -- CCM/KKK withdraw from the tournament, making it easier for Candra/Sigit to cruise through to the final. Note that Shen/He is the World Junior runner-up 2 years ago.
Hendra Gunawan/Joko Riyadi vs Choong Tan Fook/Lee Wan Wah (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- I am expecting an upset from Indonesia's no 4 pair
Albertus Susanto Njoto/Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama vs Gan Teik Chai/Abdul Latif Mohd Zakry
Shuichi Sakamoto/Shintaro Ikeda vs Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto
WOMEN'S DOUBLES -- most seeded pairs receive a bye to the second round...not much interesting match
Chou Chia-Chi/Ku Pei-Ting vs Jiang Yanmei/Li Yujia -- the Singaporean pair shoud win and face the 2nd seeded Kumiko Ogura/Reiko Shiota in the second round.
Songphol Anukritayawan/Kulchala Vorawichitchaikul vs Hoon Thien How/Ooi Sock Ai
Tsai Chia-Hsin/Cheng Wen-Hsing vs He Hanbin/Zhao Yunlei
Tan Bin Shen/Ooi Yu Hang vs Anggun Nugroho/Yunita Tetty
Kennevic Asuncion/Kennie Asuncion vs Sudket Prapakamol/Saralee Thungthongkam (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- can the Asuncion bro-sis combo beat the not-in-form Sudket/Saralee?

Chong/Lee - I don't think they will lose at home. Too experienced.
Chen Li to beat WMC
Lydia Cheah v Saina Nehwal- My match of the round. I am fascinated by this young Indian lass. Beating Li Li and Tracey Hallam so easily in the CG. She is perhaps the most talented young non-chinese female single player to emerge in a long time.

All seeds cruise to the 2nd round for XD. One upset though: the Chinese youngsters: He Hanbin/Zhao Yunlei beat Tsai Chia-Hsin/Cheng Wen-Hsing
MIXED DOUBLES ROUND 2
Nova Widianto/Lilyana Natsir vs V. Diju/Jwalla Gutta
Gan Teik Chai/Fong Chew Yen vs Shen Ye/Pan Pan -- could be a problem for the Malaysian
Songpol Anukritayawan/Kulchala Vorawichitchaikul vs Keita Masuda/Tomomi Matsuda
Devin Lahardi/Vita Marissa vs Zhang Wei/Yu Yang (MATCH OF THE ROUND) -- tough first test for Devin/Vita, hope they will win!
Tran Thanh Hai/Le Ngoc Nguyen Nhung vs Mohd Rizal/Endang Nursugianti -- no problem for Rizal/Endang
Shintaro Ikeda/Satoko Suetsuna vs Hendri Saputra Kurniawan/Li Yujia
He Hanbin/Zhao Yunlei vs Anggun Nugroho/Yunita Tetty -- a tricky tie for the Indonesian no 2 pair, but, they should win!
Gong Weijie/Tian Qing vs Sudket Prapakamol/Saralee Thungthongkam -- by right, also no problem for the second seed.

It am fairly confident that Jun Jae Youn would have no problems against Yippy.
Choong/Lee would face some problems but I think they should prevail.

Lydia lost. feel that she need more exposure. Saina Nehwal and Lydia is the same age but Saina Game hv matured. She need to be sent for more tournament like this for exposure.

Quite a number of surprising results in the WS.
Soratja bt Wang Yihan
Lee Yun Hwa bt Cheng Shao-Chieh
Pai Min Jie bt Salakjit Ponsana
Trupti Murgunde bt Xing Aiying (Indian players on fire)
Ng Ka Shun bt Huang Chia-Shin
Chen Li bt Wong Mew Choo
Hirose took some trouble beating Chien Yu Chin.
At the time of writing, the last four matches have no results yet.

Some WS results are out, with a few notable upsets.
Soratja Chansrisukot bt Wang Yihan 17-21, 21-12, 21-19
-- when was the last time a Thai WS player beat a Chinese player?
Lee Yun Hwa bt Cheng Shao-Chieh 21-4, 21-12
-- surprisingly easy win for the Korean.
Pai Min Jie bt Salakjit Ponsana 21-19, 16-21, 21-19
-- another upset win for the Taiwanese player...again a close shave in the third set
Trupti Murgunde bt Xing Aiying 21-12, 23-21
-- both players are in the CG and overall, the Indian players have caught my attention since their performance in Jaipur. Although India did not qualify for the Uber Cup, their singles have really improved a lot. Trupti and Saina won their matches today. Both face Japanese players tomorrow. Trupti will face Kanako Yonekura, while Saina will face Eriko Hirose
Ng Ka Shun bt Huang Chia-Hsin 21-13, 13-21, 21-11
Chen Li bt Wong Mew Choo 22-20, 21-11
-- a tight first set and I think Wong must have been exhausted after the CG outing. Yes, I agree that any Chinese women player can't be underestimated.

another suprise, Jun JY lost to Hkg player, Yip in 3 tight matches.
Very interesting result from this ABC 2006 specially in women singles. All the best Asian female players except China participate in here.
Shockingly, lots of seeded players lost.
The Japanese trio who will be likely play the 3 singles all cruise to second round. (Kaori, Kanako and Hirose)
Meanwhile Korea so far only had 2 singles after Jun shocking lost . So Korea will probably hesitated to place Jun as their third WS in Uber.
Taiwan lost 2 of their top WS. Bad sign. Hkg only lost one from 3 WS. Singapore lost 1 win 1.
So far Japan seems like top contenders beside Netherland to fight for runner up spot for Uber Cup. (if the Netherland pretend to loose in their group so they will not meet China in SF)
