Pilates is a good cross training for badminton. It strengthens the core.

Doing Pilates will benefit badminton as it strengthens your core. I don't think it's a fitness thing though.

I'm curious to hear how pilates can strengthen the core in a way that is transferable to badminton.

I've never done pilates but I understand it helps flexibility and strength. I think anything that helps your flexibility and strength are going to help your badminton skills.

Anything to work the core, Yoga, Pilates, bodyweight exercises will help your balance, speed and flexibility. They work all the muscles while maintain a pose, so not only the main targeted muscles are worked, but also the smaller stablizing ones that seldom get worked in a conventional weight resistance program.
