Hi all... Just registered so I thought, where to post first. And this place seems to be the place to do that. My name is Carl, I'm from Nottinghamshire, England. I play socially with some friends and some work collagues, but I'm after a little more competition. I play rugby union and hold a black belt at taekwon-do, it would appear that I thrive on competing. Anyway - I'll be off to post some wisdom or to play devils advocate in the forums.
Welcome Carl. Please feel free to leave your comments in the "anger management" thread. Enlighten us with the mental discipline that a black-belt martial art brings about.
Very insightful post about controlled aggression. Being a rugby foward, do you not scare the living daylights out of your opponents? (I have to apologise here for stereotyping racquet sport players having a lean physique)
Not so much scare them, but they assume I move like someone my size & frame would do. It can help with surprise. But taekwon-do has taught me so much about footwork. I was sparring at TKD training a while ago, the instructor saw the look in the eye of my opponent and he said to my opponent "Watch him, he's quicker than he looks". I battered the guy for 3 minutes. The instructor said "I tol you so..."
