Stomach Problems in tournaments
This year I've been having this weird stomach pain when I play in tournaments. Thing is this year is the first year I am not really getting nervous before playing. The pain in my stomach is like an intense burning or knott feeling. After every match I want to puke. I don't know why its only happening this year and never before. If I was nervous I could maybe pin it on nerves but since I feel more relaxed than ever before... I really dunno what it is. Since, however there could be no other real explanation it must be nerves... lol. Does anyone else get this or has anyone else overcome it?

yeah iv been feeling sick after games as well but im not sure either what it is unless im overdoing it.......just pushing myself too hard but i dont think i am. i just put up with it! sorry i cant help but just letting you know you are not the only one with that problem!

lol I kinda have to agree with charzord on this one, I know sometimes before tournaments (had one these past 2 days) I get nervous sometimes and others I will just get a sick feeling in my stomach...and well I usually just end up gooing to the bathroom and let one drop and well I do feel alot better. If you dont think it has to do with nervous and all that is there something that you always eat before tournaments? cause you never know maby there could be something you eat that causes that to happen.

you may also take a look at your diet leading up to the tournament. if this stomach problem doesn't occur any other time other than up to tournaments.
else, have a good meal the night before that you know will get you to have a good dump in the morning of the tourney. man... hate to be person to use the washroom after you... LOL!

Agree with badrad... I've known someone with ulcers who has similar symptoms.
On a siden note, have you you changed anything in your diet recently?

I went to the doctor and she gave me Prevacid. It is a freaking miracle drug. I was getting stomach pain all the time during training but didn't notice it b/c it came so gradual and I think I've had it forever. I didn't actually notice the pain until it was gone when i was taking prevacid. The boost in my performance and energy is huge! I can play 2 on 1 for 30 min now without feeling like total crap at the end. Before after 20 min I would be exhausted, now 30 min, im still tired, but not nearly as bad! I guess i had minor ulcers or something. I'm going in to see my doctor again monday and well see what she has to say.

He said that I should eat more next time. Also eat it an hour before badminton. I don't think you should rely on antacids all the time though. There's a reason why our stomachs have acid in the first place.

Stomach problems at tournamets
I gotta think the possible reasons are:
2. What you are eating/drinking before/during play
3. Stomach problem like ulcer or intestine problem
To cure it:
1. Try not to think of the tournament as the most important thing, if you are just entered in singles, enter in doubles and mixed, so if you lose, you still can play for rest of day and not place all your eggs in one basket. Also have a good warm up and stay loose.
2. I am no expert on diet for a tournament. Some people can't take cold drinks, others can. Some take lots of fruit, some can't. People have big meals for breakfast, others go light. I think just eat like a normal day, except throw in some extra food for energy. Also if you normally sleep in on a Saturday and the tournament makes you get up 4 hours earlier or something, try adjusting for a few weeks beforehand to getting up earlier on a Saturday...
3. See a doctor is best bet.
It probably is more a case of nerves, if you never have stomach problems when you play social or train. To cure that is just a mind game and working out the best way to stay relaxed and focus on your play.

Usually the cause is a bacteria called Helicobacter Pylori. It can be eradicated.
For some people, the other cause is a stomach cancer. So I would definately recommend somebody with this problem to get a second opinion if it persists.
