Got some shoes today, because previously i was using Jamaican running shoes (before i read the guide on here)... So i went to my local shop and they were all out of the Yonex shoes, and the bloke in the shop recommended the adidas ones that were on the top shelf... Called Adidas Stabil 6...tried them on and very comfy, haven't had a chance to play in them yet though. Anyone else have these, and what are your thoughts/opinions on them?
I wanted to get a pair too but the Stabil 6 are hard to come by in the U.S. I know one person that has them and loves them. He likes them better than his previous Yonex shoes. The Stabil 6 is originally designed/intended for squash but I've noticed squash/badminton shoes share the same design/are interchangeable for many shoe manufacturers.
id been using adidas shoes for a long time now..and i agree its durable and comfortable shoe to use..just find a good model for you before you buy it.Goodluck!
I had a pair of Addidas Stabil shoes and it was nothing special. As I had to use 2 set of additional internal shock absorbers, my ankle started to twist frequently because the resulting heel was too high. Eventually I gave up on the shoes and tried out a pair of high top addidas basketballs shoes http://www.hoopsvibe.com/images/Adidas_Team_MAC-document-20670-page-2.html and I never had another bad twist, even though I continue to use the 2 extra set of shocker absorbers. The high shoe top provided superb ankle cushion on the very rare occasions that my ankle twisted. One of the best things about the shoes is the absolutely incredible grip on the floor even when the shoe soles or the floor is very dirty. The funny thing is that when the floor is clean, I couldn't move because of the grip. But I don't think I will ever play badminton with any other kind of shoes again.
I have been using Stabil 5 for the past year. Since the 6 is derived from the 5, I hope this review can be of some help. They are very very durable; the area that always gets worn through (big toe area on the trailling foot) is protected by sturdy plastic. Comfort - The Stabil 5 is somewhat uncomfortable initally, as they are not too flexible. The Stabil6 seems more malleable. Weight - The Stabil 5 is heavier than Yonex counterparts, I have not compared the Stabil6. Shock absorption - bit better than shb89, as the Stabil range have quite thick soles (after all, they are Handball shoes). Grip - Yonex shoes have far better grip (Shb98, 99, 99Ltd) but they fall apart so easily. Since I rate durability quite highly, I will probably end up replacing my Stabil5 with some Stabil6's in the future. Below is the Stabil 5:
is there a difference between the normal stabils and court stabils? and is there a difference between the ones made for men and women?
I'm probably gonna get a pair when my yonex are done, i'm kinda tired of seeing everyone with yonex shoes lol
I've tried many shoes. My favorite for indoor badminton is the Asics Gel-Rocket II http://www.swankshoes.com/asics-indoor-court.html - I can play for hours in these and not have sore feet afterwards.
I started playing badminton a couple of years ago with Asics Gel -shoes (very popular in finland for floorball), then shifted to Asics Stabil because they were cheaper & more robust but that was a mistake. I actually went through a couple of pairs before I understood that they were the main reason why I twisted my ankle frequently - probably for the same reason as described above. Now I've used two pairs of Yonex SHB-99 and have no complaints! They are sturdy enough even for me (with weight over 90 kg), and I do play 6 - 8 hours per week. All in all I'd leave the Adidas shoes for handballplayers...
