How are doubles players categorized into doubles/mixed?

    A little while ago, there was a thread about how players are separated into doubles and singles players. I never finished the thread and was unable to find it again.

    My conclusion was that:
    - if you were a more all-around player, you'd probably be a singles player.
    - the mentally stronger may be suited for singles, because doubles has a partner for mental support.
    - a good mover should probably play singles

    Then I thought, what separates a doubles player from a MIXED doubles player? I thought about it... I really didn't know. I knew that if a guy was good at the back/a girl was good at the net, they could play mixed with some success. Still... I think one of the best smashers in the game must be FU Haifeng but he's not playing mixed?
