who does this? does this help wiht not much tension lost because all my rackets have decreased in tension dramatically within a month or two! does this shorten the lifespan of the string? much help appreciated

IMHO, any string, prestretch or not, will lose tension after a month or two. Especially if you hit with it. :)

If it's done gently, it shouldn't affect the string's lifespan. Just make sure you don't wrap it around an abrasive surface or something like a street lamp pole.

    Yep.

In general, it's better, if you don't overstretch it. It'll hold tension better.
