million? what? 1 Chen Jin CHN 27.650 <--- twenty-seven thousand six hundred and fifty li yu? i also don't know why... hmm...
nono not in millions... some countries have the , and . the other way around ie in UK, we say 32,000.00 whereas in most of europe it seems to be 32.000,00 ?
hmm...badminton players dont really earn huh...if they are injured..they wont have income for months..but at least they get to so what they like
i think they do get salaries from the club or association.i don't know. but come on..national players, mestilah dapat gaji every month, kan?
Li Yu and Yu Li are two different players. I know it is so confusing. I've seen them on tournament players list.
no... he/she meant this: 35 Li Yu CHN 480 38 Bao Chulai CHN 320 38 Joppien Björn GER 320 38 Li Yu CHN 320
interesting list yannie, those are in US dollars...hmm, Chen Jin is making pretty good income there for only 4 months, esp. for a guy his age.. In 1 yr. if he keeps on winning consistently, he could get a 6 figure salary..more power to him.. also, noticed Taufik is not even on the list...hmm, probably don't need the money anyways....
Its not really that much at all. Don't forget that its very difficult to win the bigger prizes and considering the costs of being a professional sportsman... I hope the income level can increase way more so that more players can become true professionals. There's just too much dependence on national support and many decent players do not get to compete because of the decision of some national coach as well as limited funds for the journey, etc.
understandably so; of course those $27,000+ does not include tax, money given back to coaches and other things..on one hand he's sacrificing his study and education, but considering his age and the money he makes(in 4 months)-as most kids his age are either in school or doing some other things..CJ on the other hand is making money, *for himself*, while building up his career..
They're earning peanuts! These guys are the absolute top performers in the world, and they don't make more than THAT? Well, we don't know how much they earn from sponsors. In most sports, that's where the real money comes from -- prize money is only part of the income. I'm assuming it would be the same in badminton.
I agree it is peanuts. Lin dan (No. 1 player in the world if you needed telling) earns the average wage in UK pro rata for the year (circa £24k). In which time he one one of the most prestigious tournaments (AE) True they may earn extra from sponsors, but also true he probably spent more than he earned on plane fares. You cannot make an independent living on badminton, even if you are the top player in the world. That IMO is sad
Rich? Hardly. The U.S. average income in 2002 was: $36,764. Professional badminton players need to be played more. They are definitely one of the least paid professional sports individuals in the world.
