Never heard of her. So besides the "friend of...", the "young and upcoming..." and the "haha..." poo poo, perhaps you could do something more useful such as providing some details on her instead?
She is 16 or 17? She was the silver medalist of women's singles in Malaysia National badminton championship 2004.

The Star (Saturday May 13, 2006) Third time lucky? By LIM TEIK HUAT KUALA LUMPUR: Teenager Lydia Cheah has bad memories of her two outings in Alor Star last year. But her third trip there later this month for the Sukma (Malaysia Games) may bring joyous moments. The 17-year-old Bukit Jalil Sports Student will go into the badminton competition, starting on May 28, as the favourite to win the girls' singles title. Defending champion Julia Wong of Malacca and Kuala Lumpur's Norsyahliza Baharum are not eligible to represent their states because they have played for the country in senior internationals. CITY SLICKERS: KL’s Lydia Cheah starts as the favourite to win the girls’ singles gold medal in badminton at the Games. In their absence, Lydia should step forward to claim not only the individual crown but also to play a crucial role in KL's challenge in the team competition. The other members of the team are Vivian Ho, Stephanie Shalini and Ho Bee Leng. And Lydia, who won the Under-18 title in the national schools (MSSM) championship last year, is determined to do just that. “I was a reserve in the team the last time and never got to play in the individual event. I hope to win the girls' singles gold medal this time,” said the lanky 1.75m tall Lydia. “I have had two bad experiences when I was in Alor Star. I hope everything will turn out the way I want it this time.” When she was in Alor Star for the Kedah Open last July, a motorcyclist knocked her down while she was crossing the road to return to the hotel. She suffered injuries on her head and legs but still returned play in the tournament. “I was not able to concentrate because of the injuries but I played on,” said Lydia, who now trains under Chinese coach Sun Chenghua. Lydia reached her first international final in the Malaysia Satellite circuit, which was played in Alor Star in November. But she came down with fever and was overpowered by her South Korean rival. Lydia gained prominence in the national badminton scene two years ago when she became the youngest-ever women's singles finalist in a National Grand Prix Finals. She finished as the runner-up to national shuttler Anita Raj Kaur in the tournament in Ipoh. Lydia has since helped the Malaysian girls' team to finish as the runners-up in the Asian Junior Championships for the first time in Jakarta last year. She also reached the quarter-finals in her maiden appearance in the individual competition. Lydia hopes to break into the national training squad soon but at the same time she wants to overcome a tendency for lapses in concentration. “I have the strokes and I am ready for the challenge. It is just that sometimes I tend to give away points when I am leading. I have to avoid this,” she said. Her main rivals for the girls' singles gold medal are probably teammate Vivian, Sabah's Amelie Anscelly and Selangor's Ng Hooi Ling.

she is taking her SPM this year? Sometime i wonder how player like her cope with her studies and training. I think she lacks the maturity and consistency in her game. need more exposure and grooming.
When it comes to Badminton, here in the U.S., we are deprived. We really have no clue what's going on and who are the up and coming players. The only info we really get is from BC. So, please keep the info coming. Thanks.

Source: www.thestar.com.my Friday December 15, 2006 Arif on course for U-18 title PETALING JAYA: Mohd Arif Abdul Latif is on track to win his first boys' Under-18 title in the 100Plus Sukan Teras National Junior Badminton Circuit Grand Finals held at the Ipoh City Hall Sports Complex. The 17-year-old Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) shuttler has virtually sealed a place for the semi-finals after winning his first two matches against Ng Shan Lan of Johor and Raymond Koh of Penang yesterday. In his opening group match, the Negri Sembilan-born player defeated Shan Lan 21-17, 21-15 and then followed up with a convincing 21-11, 21-12 win over Raymond. Arif will take on Malacca's Syed Akhbar next and should not face any problem to emerge as the group champion. The others who are also in the running for a place in today's semi-finals are Arif's schoolmates - Lim Fang Yang and Vountus Indra Mawan. In the girls' Under-18 today, hot favourite Lydia Cheah will face Stephanie Shalini in the semi-finals. Yesterday, Lydia blew away How Chou Xian 21-5, 21-9 while Stephanie had to dig deep before beating Tan Sin Lan 28-26, 21-18.
Congratulations Lydia Cheah, the U18 GS Champion ------------------------------------------------------ Source: www.thestar.com.my Sunday December 17, 2006 Arif and Lydia are the Under-18 champions PETALING JAYA:Top seeds Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and Lydia Cheah won the boys’ and girls’ Under-18 singles titles in superb fashions in the 100Plus Sukan Teras National Junior Circuit Grand Finals here at the Ipoh City Hall Sports Complex yesterday. Both, however, failed to make it a double victory after losing in their respective doubles events. Arif of Bukit Jalil Sports School lifted his first boys' Under-18 title when he defeated Lim Fang Yang 21-12, 23-21 in the final. Earlier, Arif made it to the final after defeating Vountus Indra Mawan 21-15, 21-6 while fellow BJSS teammate Fang Yang thrashed Penang’s Tan Yen Min 21-15, 21-11 in the other semi-final. Arif, however, retired from the doubles final with partner Vountus after trailing Tan Wee Kiong-Mohd Lufti Zaim 1-2 in the fist game. The lanky Lydia continued to dominate the junior tournaments when she tamed Stephanie Shalini 21-13, 21-15 for the girls' singles crown. She too could not keep up her momentum in the girls' doubles event. Together with Goh Liu Ying, they lost 14-21, 21-12, 17-21 to Amelia Anscelly-Ooi Swee Wen in the final.
Saw her played in the recent KL Open. nice style but need more exposure. Is she in the national team? She and the other girl, i am not sure what her name is ( her double partner at KL Open) are tall. Both can be groom. Anybody have any detail of both of them?
