    Hello all,

When i play, i always use backhand grip in my ready position. So when i'm doing a smash, i tend to use backhand grip too...soon i realize that by having a backhand grip when smashing, i tend to slice the shuttle a bit because the racket head hits the shuttle in an angle. This reduce shuttle speed or power in my smash. Then i try to change grip to forehand grip while smashing, and i found more power in my smash.

Can anyone share and tell which is the correct grip to use?

Um.., don't use a backhand grip for all your shots; especially smashing. Depending on which side the shuttle is going toward, you want to transition your grip between forehand and backhand, as just basic grips. You're either doing a backhand smash, or a [forehand] smash, there's really no in-between.

It's a lot more subtle than that! There are many different forehand grips, and many different backhand grips.

My original grips guide oversimplifies considerably; but until I complete the new version, this one is still useful: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/badminton-central/content/view/81/35/

One guy who is at the top level in our university badminton club always uses backhand grip for all kinds of shots. It looks weird but not completely ineffective. He plays doubles by the way.

There are always exceptions to the orthodoxy; but it is a bad idea to imitate them.

Successful players who use unorthodox techniques usually succeed despite them, not because of them.

Well said, Gollum. That last sentence, I mean. It just struck me as wise.

As for me, and I'm by no means an advanced player, I use forehand grip for everything except strict backhand shots.

just make sure that you use proper gripping though, it may hiner your future potential, i.e using pan handle grip gives you way less power then proper forehand grip, and at first you may improve, but when you get use to it its really difficult to change to forehand grip.

    Well,that's wrong way.
Just hold forehand grip always when cock comes to ur left side[for right hander] shift your thumb slightly to move to backhand grip and your back body should face the net when hitting back hand shots

This is the basic and powerful technique executed by many top players.

After you became an expert u can try weird stuff grips;)
