Ok guys...the draws are out! No top Chinese or Korean players in the main draw, with Malaysia pleyers as the top seed in Men' singles. I will just analyze the draws in MS. MEN'S SINGLES QUARTER 1: HASHIM Muhd Hafiz B (1) LEE Yen Hui Kendrick (9-16) CHAN Yan Kit (5-8) LEE Tsuen Seng (9-16) HASHIM Muhd Hafiz, untroubled. His first tough tie will be against LEE Yen Hui Kendrick . I think HASHIM Muhd Hafiz beat LEE easily . CHAN Yan Kit will bye in the first round and a relatively easier tie in the second round. Then, he will possibly meet Lee Tsuen Tseng in the third round. PREDICTION: No question about it, HASHIM Muhd Hafiz to qualify QUARTER 2: PONSANA Boonsak (3-4) ROSOBIN ~ Jeffer (9-16) SMITH Andrew (5-8) KHRISHNAN Yogendran (9-16) PONSANA Boonsak ,he faces PAWAR Anand , and should face ROSOBIN ~ Jeffer in the third round. The winner between SMITH Andrew and KHRISHNAN Yogendran will meet PONSANA Boonsak for a QF match. PREDICTION: PONSANA Boonsak to qualify QUARTER 3: HARIYANTO * Agus (9-16) ANAND Chetan (5-8) NGUYEN Tien Minh (9-16) KUAN Beng Hong (3-4) KUAN Beng Hong has a pretty untroubled route to the semi-final, ANAND Chetan, who won CG medals (winning the bronze medals in both team and individual event ). The winner between ANAND Chetan and HARIYANTO * Agus will meet KUAN Beng Hong. PREDICTION: KUAN Beng Hong should have a higher chance against ANAND or HARIYANTO. QUARTER 4: SAPKULCHANANART Poompat (9-16) AYOB Sairul Amar (5-8) PEI Wei Chung (MAS) (9-16) NG WEI(2) PREDICTION: SAPKULCHANANART Poompat will beat NG Wei. SAPKULCHANANART Poompat to Storm through the semi-final FINAL PREDICTION: PONSANA or HASHIM VS KUAN Beng Hong. (The winner between PONSANA and HASHIM will win)
I have some doubt whether Kuan can pass Nguyen. I think Nguyen and Anand have as good as chance as Kuan to survive from this quarter. I think Ng Wei can stand up to other opponents. Poompat may have trouble against Sairol; I rate them as quite equal.
Chen Hong beat Poompat Sapkulchananart (15-9 14-17 15-12) in WC second round! Poompat Sapkulchananart improve a lot this year,he has chance beat Ng Wei!
Philippine Opens has opened on yesterday but there's absolutely no match update on this forum. Too "minor" a competition to bother?
Basically the matches was good.. see many new faces and old faces. In terms of actions.. not much.. Philippines did fairly well. Win most of the matches. Malaysia's top seeds will play today.
All the Indonesian players involved in yesterday's matches also went through to the next round. It's good to see both Firda and Nana beat their first round opponents yesterday. Firda beat Soratja Chansrisukot in 3 sets: 14-21, 21-15, 21-10, while Nana beat Norshahliza Baharum in straight sets: 21-16, 21-18. Both will be tested severely yet again by Thailand and Malaysian players. Firda will face Julia Wong while Nana will play against Salakjit Ponsana. It will be a bonus if both can enter quarter-final. In the men's singles, Markus Wijanu beat Eric Go yesterday and will face Nguyen Tien Minh today. It will be a miracle for him to beat the fastly improving Viet. As for the men's and women's doubles, both Rendra Wijaya/Frans Kurniawan and Rani Mundiasti and Endang Nur Sugianti went through to Round 1/16 without any troubles. Both face tough opponents today. Rendra/Frans will play against Albertus Susanto Njoto/Yohan Wiratama Hadikusumo, while Rani/Endang will play against Fong Chew Yen/Ooi Sock Ai. It will also be a bonus if both can win their matches today. The other men's doubles and women's doubles pairs will also be involved today. Hendra Gunawan/Joko Riyadi and Jo Novita/Greysia Polii should have no problem against their Phil and USA opponents. Lita Nurlita/Nathalia Poluakan has a tricky tie against the Jap pair Yasuyo Imabeppu/Sachiyo Imai. Yoga Ugikasah/Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki will face Eric Go/Ronald Sou. The other non-Pelatnas pair, Rian Sukmawan/Eng Hian should also go safely through to the quarter-final. In the mixed doubles, the newly formed Mohd Rizal/Greysia Polii also has a tricky tie against Yusuke Shinkai/Ikue Tatani. The veteran pair Tri Kusharyanto/Minarti Timur will face Eric Go/Eva Lee.
Go Markus Wijanu... against all odds. Is this young player good? How come Indonesia only send one man single player? Not enough money kah
I can't download the results from the offical page. Is it just me or? I need 1. round of the MS. Regards Johansen www.badminton-nyt.dk www.fjerbolden.dk
wow, what a barren MD field. in fact, the MS is not much better. i think the philliphines badminton authority should reconsider their scheduling of events, there's not much point having the PO less than a week from the IO.
Well, its good for the young pairs to get ranking pts or even win a title here. I fancy Mohd Tazari/Lin to win their first GP title here.
That isn't the half of it. While it is quite normal to have major tournaments back-to-back, the Philippine Open is at the beginning of a string of 5 big-money events in consecutive weeks. They didn't have a lot of choice, though, as they had to re-schedule their tournament because their president allegeed she was in danger of a coup. The other thing going against the Philippines was likely that it was their first time for this tournament. I'm sure that makes a difference to some teams, for some reason. It's a little like dance clubs. While there are some people who like to go to dance clubs that aren't too busy so they have room to move and do their thang, the majority only seem to want to go to places with long lineups and choosy doormen.
