The Star June 1 06 SURABAYA (Indonesia): Lee Chong Wei was the only Malaysian shuttler left standing in the men’s singles after the first day of action in the US$250,000 Indonesian Open here yesterday. Chong Wei, the top seed and world number two, got off to an excellent start when he disposed of Chen Chi-hao of Taiwan 21-10, 21-8 in the first round. In the second round, which was also played yesterday, Chong Wei eliminated Indonesian Alamsyah 21-14, 21-17. The 24-year-old Chong Wei will face China’s Chen Yu for a place in the last eight. Back-up shuttler Yeoh Kay Bin also got off to a good start when he defeated Indonesian Budi Santoso 15-21, 21-16, 21-19. But his challenge ended in the second round when he went down 12-21, 5-21 to Kenneth Jonassen of Denmark. Lee Tsuen Seng, K. Yogendran and club player Pei Wei Chung, however, suffered first-round exits. Tsuen Seng’s misery in international tournaments continued when he was sent packing by former Indonesian great Icuk Sugiarto’s son Tommy Sugiarto 12-21, 11-21. Yogendran lost 16-21, 12-21 to Germany’s Bjoern Joppien while Wei Chung went down 16-21, 8-21 to Thailand’s Boonsak Ponsana.
A great result for Tommy. I believe he also won yesterday night to make it to Round 3. He should face Lee Hyun Il next.
You would wonder why Tsuen Seng carries on playing when he keeps losing. I think it must be time to hang up the boots.
Yeah, his fitness level is going down. Not so focused anymore. But i can see that Pei Wei Chung still has it. Just that he is not good enough.
BAM shud bring out the cane as ample chance had been given to him....and still hanging on his historic credential
Regarding Tsuen Seng, his presence in BAM more good or bad??? Good : - provide sparring to lift jrs , - assist in training with the seniors, - Not Axeing ppl going through a rough spell, will reduce athelete stress on 'job security'. perhaps allow other athletes to perform better under reduced stress. Bad : - If he is un motivated & showing bad attitude, it might rub off on the Jrs, - To many chances to someone not holding their own might send wrong messages to everyone else. - is he taking up someone else's place / spot???
