Hi, Can anyone tell me the history of these pairs..I mean when they got together, and how/why they split up and formed new teams? Someone here must know the history...I am very curious, that's all. thanks guys bchaiyow
i know a bit. candra/sigit is the original pair. They are formed around 1996-1997 and directly won WC1997 in Glasgow againts MAS pair in dramatic 3 sets. While Tony was paired with Halim and won WC2001 in Sevilla. These two pairs was Indonesian excellent MD during 1998-2001. Sigit in 1999-2000 had been banned to play due to drug and at that time Candra was paired with Tony and won Olympic Sydney title.
Halim, Tony, Chandra : A threesome Now since they are all retired from PBSI; they are planning to play tournaments together as a scrappy pairs ei sometimes Tony & Halim, others Tony & Chandra, or Chandra & Halim. Just like right now, in 2006 Indo Open in Surabaya, Tony & Chandra play together and have done pretty good in reaching the final of MD Event and will go against the new blood or upcoming stars of Indonesian Pair, Markus Kido & Hendra Setiawan.
