hi, first of all let me say that i enjoyed the semis matches...i have one gripe, however...i was very disappointed at the poor line juding which was particularly evident in the match between mia audina and lu lan to the point that people were shouting, booing and even cursing the official. this is the line judge on the far left-hand side which made several critical erroneous calls which could've cost mia the game. thankfully (for me anyway) all's well that ends well...:D

just a question, is it possible to dismiss or replace a line judge during a game? if so, what would be the circumstances? thanks!:)

Yeah, I think players can request that a line judge be changed, at which point it's up to the umpire to decide if it's justified or not.

One such line judge was replaced by the umpire in the earlier rounds.

In the mens singles match between Susilo and Kuan Beng Hong, one of the line judges was indeed replaced after Susilo protested against the line calls.

My friend was a linejudge for one of the matches and he said that there was one match where the english player argued with him several times that the ball went in when my friendactually said its an obvious out ball.

ah...if I'm not wrong, he said it was on a mon/tues.. there are many players- both seeded and unseeded.. so I'm guessing its an unseeded player since he is unsure of the name.

Seeded players don't play on mon/tues. Those days are for qualifiers.

Exactly....for most opens, the preliminary rounds usually start on Wednesday, with qualifying (if necessary) on Monday (sometimes) and Tuesday (mostly). Both the IO and SO played their qualifying rounds on both days, while MO's only on Tuesday.

Hahah probably. Don't say the lines man.. i sometimes are bored too. Have to resort into doing something else like.. chatting with players, checking email in the media center, helping my stringer friend to insert the strings in the respective rackets. I can assure you that its not easy to be a stringer during tournaments.

I already realized that on the very first day when I saw the tons of rackets on the stringer's table. Typical people... free service... :D
