World top player Lin Dan of China has waltzed into the quarter finals of the Malaysian Open badminton championship.

Lin Dan swept aside home favorite Beryno Wong in straight sets 21-12, 21-14 to book a place in the last eight and will meet Malaysia's Roslin Hashim Friday.

Rising Chinese star Chen Jin beat England's Andrew Smith 21-6, 21-10 to set up a quarter-final clash against Danish ace Peter Gade.

China's Chen Hong, however, suffered an early exit from the tournament after losing to Thai Boonsak Ponsana 2-0.

In the women's singles events, Olympic champion and world number one Zhang Ning led two of her teammates, Xie Xingfang and Jiang Yanjiao, to enter the quarter finals.

China's women displayed their power in the doubles event after all the three pairs advanced into the last eight.

Meanwhile, two Chinese teams have made it through to the mixed-doubles quarters, while Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun became the only Chinese pair into the men's doubles quarters.
