Tony and Eti came to SGVBC and Tony played a couple of fun matches. My comments and observations on Tony:

Attitude: a very cordial and sporting person. Very polite. :)

Equipment: 1st match, NS9000, 2nd match, MP100. All rackets were towel gripped. String tension on the MP100 was about 25lbs. (I was surprised) strung with white BG-65 (I believe). String was old and definitely lost tension. I bet the original string tension was 27-28lbs.

Technique: nothing fancy, hits basic shots but to the highest level. Tony just does not miss and is the most consistent player I have ever seen. Pinpoint accuracy, extreme awareness of where the opponents are and always hits the right shots. Strong wrist, first-rate net play and driving skills. Incredible presence and uncanny ability to predict where the shuttle will go. I think the most impressive thing is Tony's consistent serve (at least what I observed). He hits the perfect serve, every time. It's very hard to attack Tony's serve. Of course strong smash and unmatched defense. Obviously, Tony is the complete package, no weaknesses.

No wonder Tony has been the Olympic, All England and is the current Men's Double World Champion. :)

    Maybe next time, I'll try to set-up a game with him. :D :D :D

Eti didn't play. She's very sweet and pleasant, always smiling. She's very classy. :)

Tony played two matches, won one and lost one. The 2nd game, he played a handicap side bet game against Ba Su and "Lobster" and lost. Ba was quite happy. :p Tony had a good time and hit some incredible shots. He doesn't do anything fancy, you know where he's going to hit it but you just can't return it. :p :p :p

Not really, one of Tony's MP100s was damaged and I got to inspect the racket. MP100 = very good racket. :D

Thanks for sharing Dan, you sounded quite excited..;) :D
hmm, his MP100 has been his "go-to" racket for quite a while already..
Hehehe, i almost want to say "doh"..;) :D Yah, what you wrote above, you basically described everything which proves that he's been a winner in his career..and my feeling is that he didn't put out 100% effort during last night?!?!..:p ;)

Hmm, i see...Agree!:) Well, i'm sure both of them were quite happy, to *at least* played with Tony. Winning is not so important. ;) :)
BTW, did they play using the 21pt-system or the "old" 15x3 system??..I know Tony expressed his opinion abt it before, but did you ask him by any chance abt his opinion on it??..

BTW, not sure if mods think this thread should be in the SGVBC(places to play link) or not??..

Tony is a nice guy. Friendly and down to earth. Good to hear that he played some fun matches.

Don't know, but I believe he put in a strong effort because he was leading 13-8 in both sets and Ba and Lobster came back both sets to take Tony's $10. :p Of course Tony played with a 5 point handicap... :)

At SGVBC, when it's serious play, we always play the 15-point system. When we goof around, or want a good laugh, we may try the rally scoring, but only on rare occasions. :p

Alot of people were around Tony and Eti (of course, rightly so), I didn't want to impose so I just admired from a distance. I did make eye contact with Tony and nodded in approval; he smiled and nodded back. :)

I truly believe Tony and Eti Gunawan are ambassadors to the sport of Badminton. :) :) :)

1st Game: Tony G. with Tony "Senior".

2nd Game: Tony G. with Patrick the Pot Player.

Tony and Trisna would be very tough to beat...

...vs. Alex and James? I'd pay money to see that. :D

hmm, i see...Sorry, i don't know who's Tony "Senior". Is Patrick the tall, lean guy with short hair?? Sorry, not familiar with him either..
Tony with/against Trisna, yes, gotta see that(I don't think they've played against each other have they, at least competitively??)...Abt paying money to see those 4 play though, hmm, that's interesting..Maybe if Halim is in the mix also..hehehe;):p:)

Nope, you got both Tony Senior and Patrick wrong. But it's OK, if you see them, I'm sure you will know who they are.

Halim and Alex vs. Tony and Trisna, that would be a good match I think. :D

There is no need, we know Eepak is pro rally scoring and I am not. That is all.
