I've seen top players wearing the Yonex SHB-89MG jump higher than other players. Those also with the SHB-98MX jump at par with the former. With regards to one of the best jumpsmasher, Sigit Budiarto, is there any reason why he can jump that high? Would it be because of his shoes?

if it were shoes that made him jump so high, then everyone would have those shoes.

I'm wondering, why you do not attribute the talent to the man himself (Sigit's talent and hours or training)?

I agree, its his hours of training that made him the player with one of the highest jumps.I think that he can still jump that high with dragonfly shoes. To me Fu Hai Feng has the highest jumps.

The strength and conditioning coach Joe Defranco recommends using track waffles which provide strong, stiff support for maximum vertical jumping. Of course, he's referring to optimizing for the vertical jump test that is performed at professional sports draft combines testing.

    Re: Doubt on skills

I Have no doubt on his skills. And with my question, I actually pertain to the technology that lies with his shoes and its effect to the player. He definitely is one of the best and maybe he's got helium in his blood. :)

I will say 99% because of the skill and physical condition. However, SHB89 does provide more protection, when compare to SHB98, though.

Looks like the racket is similar to yours ............ AT800DF, ....... and Sigit's grip is not as usual when he did a smash (normally he used the short forehand grip)

Those shoes i believe are very low to the ground and very light

those or anything similar would be good for jumping

its definately not why sigit is good at jumping - I believe the best jumpers are the ones with the strongest legs

Maybe a bit extreme: does a frog need a pair of shoes?

OR: will a frog jump higher with a correct pair of shoes?:p

The photo must be taken from Singapore since I could see "AVIVA" in the banner. It has been the sponsor of Singapore Open for quite a while.

with regards to shoes and verticals, i remember hearing from a few sources that the most efficient type of shoe for jumping vertically is those with a hard solid and rigid sole. firm and light shoes are best, as they do not absorb any of your energies. everything is transferred into the ground and physics takes over. and shoes that fit the best or a bit small might be even better.
basically anything that prevents loss of energy.

I dont think it will effect the height that much...
Come and think about it.. it might be even more dangerous to wear hard sole..
There is definately less shock absorbance.. poor joints will suffer...
The height of jump is depending on the force of contraction and how fast the muscles contract.. shoes are just there for protection..

i'm talking about jumping high, not comfort.
vertical jump tests for instance, for when you want to know just how high you can really jump. we're maximizing height, not comfort nor protection.
you won't be doing what i mentioned in badminton games, that would be definitely a bad idea.
