Two days ago I was playing in my school's badminton tournament and had my string broken. As I still had to play the final yesterday I went to the nearest stringer instead of my usual stringer who's a bit far away.

And...alongside the MUCH higher charge, they had my favorite AT800de strung like this..@@ :crying: :crying: :crying:
(my request was: BG-85, 24 pounds)

I dont need much stringing knowledge to tell that it's wrongly strung... Another thing which is deadly obvious is that the string on top is as loose as those you find on a cheap metal toy racket.

The question is...will it make any damage to my racket... or... do I need to cut it RIGHT NOW to prevent that?

LOL! This is so funny! :D :D :D

That stringer strung your racket with a traditional stringing pattern which is obviously not correct. Well, I should say he tried to string your racket with a traditional string pattern. :p

Though I doubt it will do any permanent damage, I would highly recommend you cut the string and get it re-strung by a competent stringer. Also try to get your money back from that guy who strung your racket and tell him what he did was wrong.

Sorry, I'm stilling laughing, I can't believe that guy strung your racket like that.

    No worries. :)

I second what Sir DinksALot said. One additional point, make sure the grommet is not damaged. Take it back and ask for your money back and take it to a good stringer.

    Whoah....

That's pretty messed up. The first obvius mistake is that those grommets around the 1 - 2 o'clock position are single pass grommets, not double pass grommets... they're even specifically smaller, so your stringer must've gone through a LOT of trouble running it through there.

If it feels like there's slack at the top of the racket, maybe it's because those single pass grommets are so tight that the string is actually 'caught' and not pulling properly?

I wouldn't play with it if i were you, an AT800 like any other tool racket to be strung properly to maintain strutural integrety-- if the string feels loose on one end, that's definately a bad sign.

Get a picture of the official AT800 stringing pattern released by yonex (if you lost your copy, there's one somewhere here on BC) and bring that to the stringer and demand a refund for his incompetance.

I wouldn't trust my racket with that dude ever again, while you're at it.

    thanks for the replies ^^
I'm not going to cut the string until I get to show it to the retarded stringer
but guess I wont have my money back @@

Man, this is the wildest mistake I ever saw... Yeah, talk to him, and see if he can make up your lost. But I am really amazed how s/he be able to share a single gromment with 2 strings.

Wonder if the stringer has enough experience about badminton racket or not. AT800 is kinda popular, making a mistake like this, seems that s/he is extremely lack of experience.

the at800 have been out for some time and the string pattern is rather common amoung newer yonex rackets..
how could that stringer possibly NOT know that...unless he have never string anyone of the newer design atall in the past 2 years or so..
seriously even a 10 yrs old can tell something is not right and that stringer still keeps it going.. how on earth makes him thinks he can get away with "THAT" string job

That's gotta be a lot of awl work involved, I wonder if those single-channel grommets are damaged?

Nothing like brute work from the sharp tip of an awl will guarantee the cross string to pass those small holes :D.

print out a copy of the AT800 stringing instructions (aither from a yonex site or from somewhere here) and take them with you to show the stringer how it should have been done.

maybe the stringer never strung a similar racket.
IIRC, Yonex has a guide for AT800 DF/OF stringing method.

Went to the stringer's shop today and guess what?
They refused to refund or do anything to compensate! When I showed them the official yonex stringing pattern, they said I should have told them if I had any "special request"...... @@
I said that's not "special request", that's "doing ur job right", and they insisted that nothing was wrong with the stringing!!!

If you want the shop's address (in HK) posted, I'll do...

Special request? LMAO! How dare they say there was nothing wrong with the string job. :p You should report this shop to Yonex and definitely post their info so people will avoid them. What a joke! :(  ...:p

i see two knocks against this shop
    1) dont know or dont care about stringing specification
    2) unwilling to admit mistake. This is bad as it applies to all their business practices.
    *avoid them with extreme prejudice**

I say you put that shop's address up. That's totally unprofessional of them-- first of all getting it wrong in the first place when it's one of the most common best selling rackets, and secondly, to not admit their error and blame their incompetence on the client.

We're always talking about shops in Canada that don't know how to string for beans, you may as well list them up so that no one suffers the same problems as you just did.

It's easy for us to look at this as a joke because your racket is still in one peice, but I wouldn't trust them just because they got lucky and didn't break your racket outright.
