who is Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP) ?

He's the Chairman of PLDT (Phil. Long Distance Telephone) as well as Managing Director and CEO of First Pacific Co. Ltd, a HK-listed group (parent of PLDT and Indofood) which is incidentally owned by the Salim Family of Indonesia.

Anthony Salim (Lim Seow Leong's son) is the current Chairman of First Pac, as well as President and CEO of the Salim Group.

Manuel has been Lim's long-time trusted right-hand man and he himself is very loyal to the Lim Family.

Manuel's background:

Age 59, born in the Philippines. Mr. Pangilinan received a BA from Ateneo de Manila University and an MBA from University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School before working in the Philippines and Hong Kong for the PHINMA Group, Bancom International Limited and American Express Bank. He served as First Pacific's Managing Director after founding the Company in 1981, was appointed Executive Chairman in February 1999 and resumed the role of Managing Director and CEO in June 2003.

Mr. Pangilinan also served as President and CEO of PLDT since November 1998 and was appointed Chairman of PLDT in February 2004. He is the Chairman of Metro Pacific Corporation, Smart Communications, Inc., Pilipino Telephone Corporation, and Landco Pacific Corporation, as well as the President Commissioner of PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk. He also holds directorships in Negros Navigation Co., Inc. and Citra Metro Manila Tollways, Corporation. Mr. Pangilinan is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Ateneo de Manila University, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Medical Doctors Inc (Makati Medical Center), and Chairman of the non-profit organization, Philippine Business for Social Progress. He is also Chairman of the Hong Kong Bayanihan Foundation, a civic organization based in Hong Kong. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities by San Beda College in the Philippines in January 2002.

OMG.... the indonesia conglomerate , the Liem Sioe Liong. i eat their product (indofood instant noodle) for breakfast everyday

looking beyond his curriculum vitae, MVP is a well respected and much admired man here in Manila. He is known to be a champion of good business governance, and a big fan of Badminton. Heck, from what I heard, he used his own money to stage the MVP Cup. So i guess this guy deserves a big thank you from all the badminton fans who were able to enjoy 3 fun days of action

i hope he will do like singapore, importing some good players (indonesia,china)

Apparently, another MVP Cup will be held on March 26 to 28. Guess what! I will be representing one of Manny Pangilinan's companies in badminton. I passed the tryout last Saturday. I rarely play singles, but somehow, I managed to beat a couple of players. I got lucky.

Oh no! It's exclusive for the companies owned by Manny Pangilinan.

It is composed of different sports. I get to represent one company in badminton.

There's also an "American Idol" version called "MVP Idol" from which I want to join. Unfortunately, I'm not the reigning champ in terms of singing where I work from. Too bad

OMG! I didn't know that the MVP Cup Asia vs Europe is also named after Manny Pangilinan. The MVP Cup I'm referring to is just an intercompany tournament.
