No doubt, Young Dae is talented young star. Beijing Olympic Gold Medal had proved it, possibly he may shine once again in London Games 2012.

When he was young in elementary school, before he joined National Team, he played singles and men's doubles; he usually got the champions in both category. After he became a junior national team member as the youngest one(I don't remember his age at the time), he started to focus on MD and XD.

He used to win singles and doubles when he was young. Even in his last two years of high school, he won 3 domestic titles at the high school level. His last international singles result was the 2004 Indonesia Junior Open where he lost in the semi-finals to Gong Weijie, just a month before his 16th birthday. The last time he played singles internationally was, no doubt, the Asia Regional Preliminary Rounds for the Thomas Cup, where he was beaten by Hafiz in two straight.
Shin Baek Cheol followed a similar pattern, although he kept playing singles internationally until much later, including last fall and last week.

i haven't gone back for all those 2000+ posts, what is the general opinion of he should concentrate on one event rather than both MD and XD? he doubled it up quite often, even in the 2008OG. Most of the tournaments you play everydays in the last 3-4 days, it must hurt even for a young professional. I dont know if he had many successes with both titles in one tournament, shouldn't he be better to pick and concentrated on one?

Traditionally, Korean heroes in badminton have played in both categories; legendary Park Joo Bong, Kim Dong Moon who made countless achievements. LYD is also following the line of his seniors as he has quite good abilities to do that. Usually, he has advanced to semi-finals and finals in both categories of BWF tourneys, sometimes winning two titles at a time. He said, it's really hardworking to play in both categories, but getting used to it learning how to save energy in XD.
In general, two-category players used to play a role to cover the font area in MD so it could be manageable saving energy. And in other tourneys like BWF Super Series, if some player has to play in both MD and XD, when the organizer planning the order of final matches, they usually put the two categories in the first and the last so that the player can have enough rest. But in this Sudirman cup, YD could only rest for tens of minutes during the MS match.
