    Default backhand roofing

    hello all,

just a question with regards to the backhand. at the club where i play, i see many players hitting the shuttle towards the roof using a backhand stroke, i was just wondering if anybody knew the purpose of this and for what kind of shot would it be appropriate to use this stroke (a backhand clear etc...)

    thanks in advance

is it at the start of a game? if yes, it's just another way to determine who take the 1st choice of court or service, instead of doing coin toss or other method. it goes by where the cork is pointing. if it's toward you, then you can choose either take a court side or the 1st service, and vice-versa

I do this sometimes to increase power on my backhand clear stroke. there was a time that i used a tennis/squash racquet when I'm doing this excercise, sort of a weight training to increase power because tennis/squash racquet is heavier than a badminton racquet.

I tend to do something similar to that in order to get a feel for the room and the birdie. It also helps me loosen up before a game.

almost everyone does it when they are young or starting. at the glencoe when ur in junior development U16 we used to ahve competitions to see how many times you could hit the roof in a row or if you could hit the roof at all.
