It's happened yesterday when I played with someone in my U's club..
My partner lift the birdie way to high above the net when our opponents got their chance and tapped the birdie straight to my eyes..
Now my eyes is in pain and I can't focus anything that is near to me..
Now I got my eyes white + red.. My left eyes is white while my right eyes is red.. :(
If I force to focus something near, my eyes will started to pain..
Now I'm just hoping that this pain will go away tomorrow..... :crying:

p/s My advice is, when your opponents got a chance ball at the net, run away as far as possible.. :D

you might have something called traumatic mydriasis. Best go and see and opthalmologist straigth away for examination. It is quite possible there is other damage you are unaware of

See a doctor right the way!

As Cheung mentioned, you should go to the emergency center or consult an ophthalmologist immediately! Your eyes could be seriously inflammed, or worse, have retinal tears or detachment, which can only be ruled out by observing the retina after dilating the eyes.

My eye was also hit by a birdie some years ago and it got seriously inflammed. It hurt real bad and I could not see much out of that eye. I had to use two different medical eye drops (one of them was an antibiotic) for a month for the eye to return to normal. I think the other eyedrop was to keep the eye dilated to relieve pressure. So, you probably don't want to try focusing with it too much as it might inflict more pressure on that eye. Fortunately, my retina was ok but if the eye was not treated I could have lost the sight, in my doctor's opinion.

After learning this hard lesson, I always wear protective glasses (you can still look cool :D ) while playing badminton matches. I'm perplexed that very few people do the same considering the possiblity of serious eye injury from playing badminton matches...oh, yes, there are quite a few reported eye injuries from playing badminton.

    Good Luck!

    tapped into the eye

it happen to me also. at that moment i totally cannot see anything. i stopped playing and the pain was unbearable. waited for 15 mins still no sign of inprovement, i took some medicated oil (always bring along one bottle in case) close the affected eye and apply the oil on the eye lip. 5 mins later the pain had gone and i continue to play.

    1. Badminton lesson with professional coach.....$30.00
    2. Coach tells you to cover/protect your face at the net......$30.00
    3. You don't listen to the coach and get hit in the eye, doctor bill.....$????
    4. The look in the morning when you see yourself in the mirror with the swollen eye......priceless!

This is worse than just having pain. You cannot see in light because your eye cannot use it's muscles to make the pupil smaller. I know because I've had this experience before. I went to the hospital immediately for a check (took ages), and then needed follow up again for observation and another check.

You obviously don't know how serious it is because you are trying to go to badminton training without being able to see properly!!

err, you should see an opthalmologist now..not later!! Trust me, I'm a .....;)

As soon as I entered court, my eyes became clear.. I think.. :p
But, when I stop playing, I realize my sight has become blur for sometimes..
    I don't know..
I'm just lazy to go and see a doctor..
Maybe I'll wait for tomorrow as here is already 8.24 p.m..
If tomorrow morning I still got this pain, I'll go and see a doctor..
    Anyway, thanx for your advice..

It's easier during night time because the light is not so bright. That's why you can see better and it doesn't hurt your head.

OH MY!!! What are you still doing here posting... see a doctor immediately!

Did you do a "volleyball block" just to save the point?

BTW, why not make the wearing of protective eyewear mandatory in badminton?

Bye now, its 9:22 AM here in Toronto and I have to go to the office. Good luck!

It's like any sport, if you protective eye wear, you feel as though you don't look cool and people call you weak. Like in hockey, how many times has Don Cherry made fun of "Frenchies" and "Europeans" beacuse they wear a visor?

When I was at school in the dark ages I remember that friend of mine would always step forward to receive such shots, then he'd duck down and hold his racket up hoping to intercept the shuttle. He didn't often make contact with the shuttle but sometimes he did (maybe 1 in 10 or 20). However bad the chances are it's still better than getting smacked in the face!

    Just a thought

My advice beside seeing the doctor is dont use your eyes to much. Especially dont watch tv or surf internet too much. Let your eyes rest for a while.
