Hi all, Does anyone know of any places in the Seattle area where there's a badminton club? Hard to judge exclusively from websites, when you're coming from Denmark, and dont know much about badminton in the US.
if you are close to the university of washington, you can go and play at the ima sport facilities, people outside the university can play here for a realtively cheap entrance fee. Problem is that there people come and play with their mates or friends, no club is training there but if you can find a partner this could be a good place to go. Hope this help Damien

Thx for the replies so far. I am mostly looking for a club with some sort of training, seeing as I dont really know anyone in advance. I did take a look at the Bellevue Badminton Club, it looks good. Pete, Vancouver is a bit of a drive just to swing a racquet, and besides I've hardly played for the past year due to injury, so you might be disappointed.... However, I do have some family in the Vancouver area, so perhaps I could come to play there while visiting family. Could be nice.
He he! Don't forget the gas factor going to and from Canada. I do go back to Richmond myself, but that's almost every two to three weeks. I mainly play at the UW IMA every Fridays as the regulars come and play.
We shall await for your reply and possible arrival in Vancouver. We will be on our knees and kowtai to an ex pro when you arrive at our club's doorstep .
There're a group of players (at least used to) train/drill at UW IMA regularly. There's one very strong player from Denmark plays there also, don't think he plays a lot or is he still there. Yes, Bellevue Badminton Club is the only full time badminton facility in Seattle area. You should consider join the club if you play more than twice a week, since the drop-in fee is not cheap. If you can find players to train with you, Highline will be a good place to train. There're 8 courts, it's no longer crowded and you pay like $25 for 9 months, the organizer Steve will set up matches for you if you ask. It's closed during summer.
Clinton, Are you referring to the Denmark person who is the visiting scholar? If it is him, he's no longer at the UW because he was only there for the Spring quarter. Brooke (I think that's how it's spelled) was also at the IMA but she is now teacher with the Bellevue club as we know. I'm surprised her husband finally showed up at the IMA once again two weeks ago because I have not seen him there since the Spring quarter ended – probably too busy with his classes. Matt
Matt, Possibly, my friend told me about this Danish guy (who was in the same club and practiced with Peter Gade ?) and was hoping he would sign up for the WA Open tournament last year. Yup, Brooke is busy coaching at BBC and her husband is probably busy studying and attending conferences. Clinton

The closest place to play near Everett is.. ..i'm not from Washington state, but i believe Bellevue is the closest to Everett, which is abt 30 miles or roughly 30-40 min. drive south of Everett. Yah, Seattle is probably closer than Bellevue(i thought Seattle is a bit further south from Bellevue), and more like the "hot-bed of badminton" in Washington state; although upon checking quickly, both Bellevue and Seattle are abt the same, distance-wise and time-wise from Everett. Abt the website, yah, i think that's the same one that i have also. Whether it's the most up-to-date info, well, looking at the yr at the bottom of the webpage, it still says 2005. Sooo, take it for what it's worth...
It's similar, depending on what highway route(s) you take. Bellevue is like approx 10-20 minutes east of Seattle. Depending on the highway (once you factor in rush hour traffic), getting to either Bellevue or Seattle would be difficult.
The website http://www.northwestbadminton.org/washington.php is fairly up to date, we do update the page when we get notification from the club. There used to be a group of mostly Indonesians played at Everett on Sunday morning except I don't think they play there anymore.
If you are near the Federal Way area, we are thinking of reviving a Federal Way badminton club, depending on the demand. Schedules: Saturdays 9-1130am, and Mondays 4:30-9:30pm.
