Hi... I'll be taking a vacation in Vancouver from Aug11-15. I noticed a couple of similar recent threads on the subject but I hope I can be forgiven for starting my own. Anyway, it's my first real trip to Van so I'm quite unfamiliar with the area tho I'll be armed with a map and rental car. I've seen posts about drop-ins so looks like I'll be headed to RichPro on Fri Aug11 evening. I'm a high-intermediate player hoping for some competitive games. On a good day I've been able to provide stiff challenge to some pretty highly ranked Ontario-B players in doubles. I was wondering if there would be any opportunities to join some of you for a game? I guess the 3 major locations are RichPro, ClearOne and VRC? Please feel free to PM me or reply to this thread. I'm willing to provide contact info in PM. Cheers!!
Sounds like we need to schedule Aug 12 for a smash-down. Too bad VinningWolf will be gone but Tweak (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35077) indicated that s/he is also in town. I will try to come out to VRC on the 12th.
WWC: Sweet! I'll try to make it to VRC on the evening of the 12th too. Pete: Might you be there on the 12th? Or is there another day I can pick up some LB-pain? Haha.
I'll make note of that and I will do my best to be there on the 12th. Hopefully my cousins will consider it a free night and won't throw a party for me
What's the drop-in fee for VRC anyways? I couldn't find anything about it on their website. BTW, if I do manage to show up on the 12th, I'll be carrying a bright turquoise yonex bag xD
VRC as guest? Hey guys... I'm a bit puzzled about the guest policy at VRC. I couldn't find any info about guests/drop-ins on their website. Searching through the threads, I saw bits of info mentioning drops-ins and guest passes. Could someone kindly clarify how it really works? Would I need a member to bring me in? What time should I meet you guys? How will I recognize you? Sorry for the load of questions. I'll be the one with short hair, no glasses, white Mizuno baddy shoes with red shoelaces, AT800DE w/white grip, green Gosen bag.
It's not considered a drop-in. You are invited as a guest of a member. The fee is $10 which you must pay before playing (discount passes are no longer sold). The accompanying member will need to sign you in, and the member is responsible for you during your stay at the club. In other words, the signing member needs to be on premise while you are there. FYI - if you are a guest, you will also need to abide by the rules of the VRC, also at any time you may be asked by any VRC member who you are/who your signing member is. If you haven't signed in, you will be asked to leave immediately.
Thanks for the clarification, badrad. Will you be there on the 12th? Would anyone here be so kind and be my signing member? I guess I would need a name to give anyone who asks?
That's very nice of you, Pete. But I think the guys would be better to drop in at 9:30pm when more of us are there. We certainly won't want them to go through what Darthhowie went through the last time. nSmash and Tweak, once you're there, ring the door bell and wait at the lobby. Looking lost might help too. Peter LSD and the rest of the BF-VRC folks will try to meet up with you there and sign you in.
Hahaha.. good times...All was made up for after meeting you guys and spending new year's eve and day playing badminton there. I take it I didn't get the LB treatment correct? The lesson i did learn was to get a phone number of a BF/BC member before going to the club.
Looking lost might help too. That's the key. I've got the looking lost part down cold and I get let in everytime. I'm flaying back in on the 18th to drive the family home. I can't make VRC saturday ( have to drive first thng Sunday morning), but will look at drop in Friday night at Richmondpro if my wife hasn't already booked me for something.
Seems once there are VRC "welcome session" (aka. torture session ), my name is being listed here or there. Man, take it easy on our guests.
