I felt this stomach stitch while playing singles game, i guess this is because improper breathing techniques? Can anyone let me know how to get rid of this problem ? Note: i dont have this problem while playing doubles game. Thanks, Satheesh
i feel i have good fitness compare to other players in my gorup, have lean and strong body legs, froarms etc. I have this problem of stitch i have felt this one whlie doing a long distance running too.
I should add easiest way to get rid of a stick, is pull the opposite leg to where the stich is (right side stich, raise leftleg etc) and hold it there and the stich will disappear. For awhile yes, but it might come down to conditioning and diet.
Thanks robc06 i will try this method next time when i get a stitch. may be i have to drill down this problem to diet.
A stitch is just like getting cramp, ur diaphragm needs oxygen too. So when u get a stitch all it is is that ur diaphragm has been working anerobically for too long and needs oxygen. Because singles is quick and u are all alone u get a stitch cos u breathe less while using a lot of muscles. In doubles because the work is shared you can breathe a lot more during rallies lowering the chance of a stitch. Just stand up straight with your hands on the back of your head, and take deep breaths and the stitch should go. I hope this helps
you get cramps from not fit enough, not enough potassium, not enough sodium, not enough water. A large deficiency in one or all will add to your problems. Usually though if you keep pushing yourself when you have a cramp or stitch it will go away. The problem is though if you get it in your legs and keep pushing yourself. There is a chance you will tear the muscle or it will just stop working. Its happened to me a couple times haha. Its you just can't move your leg anymore it won't contract. My coach thought I tore it. He has torn both his calves.
