According to the just released Draw List, some interesting info on the Men's Singles can be gathered:

Nine countries will be participating with the number of participants in brackets:

Main Draw: MAS (18), SIN (11), INA (9), PHI (6), THA (4), VIE (3), TPE (2), EGY (Egypt) (2) and WAL (Wales) (1).

Qualifying: SIN (19), INA (9), TPE (8), PHI (2), ENG (England) (2), and THA (1).

Notable Absentees: China, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Good turnout from the Philippines. Pleasant surprise from Egypt, England and Wales.

The number of seedings with Indonesia seeded at both No.1 & 2, among others are: MAS (8), INA (3), THA (3), SIN (1) and WAL (1).

Apart from host Singapore which has a total of 30 participants (11M+19Q) in the MS event, Malaysia and Indonesia each sent in a total of 18 players. However, Malaysia has the most number of seeded players (8) who will compete against the no.1 and 2 seeds, Jeffer Rosobin and Tommy Sugiarto from Indonesia. Unfortunately, the real test is not available with the absence of powerhouses China and South Korea.

    Default WS Participants and Countries

A total of 51 ladies (28M, 23Q) will be vying for the WS crown.

    The breakdown (M - Main Draw; Q - Qualifying; S - Seeded players):

    01. Singapore - 21 (9M, 12Q, 3S)
    02. Malaysia - 13 (9M, 4Q, 1S)
    03. Indonesia - 5 (4M, 1Q, 2S)
    04. Thailand - 4 (3M, 1Q 2S)
    05. Egypt - 3 (2M 1Q)
    06. Switzerland - 2(2Q)
    07. Taipeh - 1 (1Q)
    08. Vietnam - 1 (1M)
    09. Philippines - 1 (1Q)

    The 8 seeded players are:

    01. Julia Wong Pei Xian (MAS)
    02. Xing Aiying (SIN)
    03. Maria Kristin Yulianti (INA)
    04. Gu Juan (SIN)
    05. Fu Mingtian (SIN)
    06. Porntip Buranapraseatsuk (THA)
    07. Melicia Kurniawan (INA)
    08. Sitee Prucksapatsarnsilp (THA)

Quite normal to have more young players from Southeast Asia, especially those countries located nearer to Singapore.

We will see who will emerge as the top four players who will most likely be the future stars of their respective countries.

I will take a day off tomorrow, Tuesday, to watch the start of the MS, WD, MD and XD. A very long day indeed! I hope to see some of you at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

I pity the winners of today's qualifiers as some would have to play 3 matches, in the morning, afternoon and evening just to gain entry to the Main draw. By tomorrow, they would have lost much of their energy and would be easy prey for their opponents if they should advance any further.

Hmm..it seems that the Singapore Satelitte is quite interesting..with Team Indonesia's Second Team in full force.

I hope to make it to the stadium tomorrow....probably in the late afternoon...with intention to watch the young pairs in WD (Nitya/Nadya), XD (Tantowi/Yulianti, Lingga/Devi, Frans/Nitya) and hopefully some MD (Yoga/Yonathan, Frans/Rendra, Akhsan/Bona, Lingga/Tantowi).

See you guys at the Toa Payoh Stadium.

I went to Singapore Satellite yesterday and it was super cool!!! But too bad I had to leave very early 'coz I've got somethign up in my uni. Met so many wonderful people. Loh, super nice, super cool and taught me how to clap loudly to support Weifeng. Hahaha. And took many pics too! Waiting for your pics and report Georgina also super sweet and cute and nice... Intro me to Peerasak who is super cute and all-smiling guy. And I'd love to meet more Thai players!! Of course, there is also Chong Weifeng, the 11th seeded, a very nice and cool guy.. hahaha. I would love to meet him again.. Jia you Weifeng!!
Too bad Lim Kenn and Beryno lost already, and they had to go back to KL so fast...

I have posted more pics under the thread "Cheers Asian Satellite 2006" as there are too many pics to be included. Your Malaysian friends' faces should be there. I've also shot one for Serla with Chong.

I would say Feng Feng is in superb form!
