i have a question...i if i string my mp99 at 24x26 and my cab30ms at 24x26 will i get the same effect? same string bed hardnes??? because i use to string my rox racket it is oval at 21x23 and it was dope...i loved that setting for teh string, but now after i broke that racket i bought mysefl the 99 and i string it at 23x25, the string bed is very soft....and i get no smash from it... so what i am wondering is do i have to increase the string tension for an iso because the overall racket frame head is larger therefore the strings have a larger distance to cover and so it is softer at the same tension? and ovals have a smaller head and the strings dont need as much tension to produce the same effect?
Your assumption seems make sense. I too noticed that for same tension, the string job comes out a bit differently from an oval and an ISO. Maybe consider as 1 lb for Iso, if you feel the string bed is too soft.
From my observation on both badminton and tennis racquets, the bigger the frame size, higher the tension you need to get the same feeling. In general @ same tension, higher the string density, stiffer the string bed feel. Since the Oval (egg head) usually has smaller frame size than ISO, the string bed is stiffer at the same tension (can be proved by physic). Also another rule of thumb is higher the string density, better the control. Lower the string density, more bouncy it get. ie, more shuttle speed.
I string all my oval rackets with uniform tension(e.g. 22*22) but for ISO rackets I string it 1 or 2 lbs more for the crosses depending on how high the tension is... Reason?? I have found that for the oval rackets with the uniform tension seems to hold the shape closer to the original shape. But all this could depend on what machine you are using too, i guess!!!!!
My rule of thumb tells me to string an iso racquet 2 to 3 lbs higher compared to an oval, in order to get similar stringbed stiffness.
