..just curious, is anyone else following the tournament??..from the tournament's website, it looks like there will be quite a lot of participants, and noticed quite a bit from NorCal area players...Some notables, esp. in the "B"/Open categories:
As usual the 2 "Queens of the court" in WD event, Johanna and Grace will be strutting their prowess; while Lauren Todt and Mona Santoso will pair up on the other end.
In MD Ba Su and coach Alex Liang(Dan's coach) will partner up as the top seed while Nick Jinadasa & Andrew Todt will pair up on the other end.
In XD, Johanna and Ba Su will pair up as the top seed while Mona Santoso & Arnold Setiadi will be on the other end..
BTW, anyone know which scoring system format are they going to use??..The old scoring system or the new scoring system??..Also, i don't see Chris Ngu's name in there; is he competing this time??..
Dan, are you going to follow/watch??..hehe;):)

    15 point system...

I believe in XD, it's Grace and Ba...

Chris was going to team up with Coach James Huang and enter in the Open Drop B at the last minute but Coach Huang just got back from China so no go...

I will most likely drop by and watch Alex and Ba play. I plan to dink a little too. :D

thanks for the info/correction Dan and xflubb,
Dan, looking fw to the pics you took, i saw you with your "weapon" from high above a metal ladder, as well as another gentleman with a very professional "weapon" taking pics also...;)
Too bad Chris Ngu and coach James couldn't play..If they did, they probably would've met Ba Su & coach Alex along the way to the championship..Although i've got to say the Chandra & Ronald Sou pairing is the best looking challenger for Ba Su & coach Alex..;)

Dan, thanks for sharing the pics with us..:)
Wow, you missed the B Open MD Final between Ba Su & coach Alex vs. Chandra & Ronald Sou..It was a great match, lots of really fast actions.
    Here's my summary:
The latter pair won the 1st set comfortably, with Chandra doing a lot of the work by cutting the shuttle and getting easy points in the front. It was going well for them, til the middle of the 2nd set, where coach Alex and Ba Su started to change tactics and now targeting Ronald Sou(I felt during the 1st set, coach Alex seemed not to want to attack the younger Ronald, rather go for the experienced Chandra). The younger pair (esp. Ronald) then made a few mistakes toward the end and ended losing the 2nd set. The 3rd set started tight and it was very close til the 8 point court-side switch. Then something interesting & questionable happened, which is probably the turning pt of the set: Right after they had switched sides, with Ba Su and coach Alex leading, i believe, 8-4 or 8-5, just when Ba or coach Alex was abt to serve(don't recall which one), Chandra had called for time as he wasn't ready. But for some reason, after Ba or coach Alex served and getting a point, the side umpire, i believe he's related to the Jinadasa?? didn't see Chandra raised his hand. Thus he allowed the point. I don't know if Ba or coach Alex noticed that or not..
After that incident, i can see the whole momentum changed, as Chandra and Ronald seemed to lose focus & began making a series of errors, which in turn cost them the match.
Personally, coach Alex was instrumental in changing the whole momentum, as i didn't see much siginificance from Ba Su. He made quite a lot of self-errors, some or most of which lead to giving pts or giving back the serve to the other pair(Seemed to be a bit anxious and not as quick in reactions)..
Other than that, all in all, it was a very entertaining and fun match to watch. I also noticed Chris Ngu sitting on the tournament's desk during the match, probably thinking, 'boy, i wish if i'm playing now'..;):)

The other Finals weren't as interesting, well, except for the XD B Open where Ba Su & Grace played against Arnold S. & Mona. It gave some glimpses of excitement, but the younger Arnold just made more errors thus costing his side the match...Again, personally i felt it was Grace who really helped in covering Ba Su in most of the situations, as Ba was also committing more self-errors than Grace..;)

Anyways, congrats to all the winners and hope they'll be back again for the Wintersmash..;) :)

the gatorade bottle is likely used to prop up the saggy net without the hassle of untying and redoing the net:D Gatorade bottle is also good for plugging net holes made from dinker's smashes too:p

LOLZ. Hi, ionoo. I suppose you don't follow the local or professional tournaments very closely? It's a'right. No problem there. Anyways, MS stands for Men's Singles, WS for Women's Singles, MD for Men's Doubles, WD for Women's Doubles, and XD stands for Mixed Doubles. I'm not sure what drop b open drop is.
