Along with partner Nathan Robertson she has been No. 1 in the world at mixed doubles, All England Champion, Commonwealth gold medalist and Olympic silver medallist.
Quite a good site actually. English organising seems non-existent though, Missed training sessions, no shuttles, no proper food.
Gail Emms home page For Gail Emms fans Visit her official website www.gailemms.com. She has an interesting diary about life on tour. PS I apologize if this has already been posted, I tried the search function and nothing showed up
Yep like most sport (except football) in the UK the organisation is still not brilliant, many promising players simply don’t get the right guidance to become better, coaching is hit and miss and as for Badminton in schools, its just something to do if its too wet/cold to play football. However those with the dedication and talent can go further, Sheffield, Loughborough and Milton Keynes all have links with Badminton UK and that’s the way to go to end up playing for your country.
Does Gail Emms continue to use Asics Gel Rocket II shoes (all white) at the World Badminton Chamionships?
Thanks for the website! She's very cute and her journals are very interesting. A peep into her life.Haha!
She is becoming one of my favorite players Her and Nathan are one of my favorite doubles/or xd pair to watch I like the diaries, they give insight into a professional players life on tour, interesting.
Even with a training centre worth 6 million pounds? Check the thread under the general forum. Athony Clark gives major praise to the England Training Center.
A training centre is only the Tool with which to undertake the task. Organisation and coordination of training and tournament preparation is far more important than spending millions on a training centre.
They get nutritionists, psychologists, I'm sure their coaches chart their progress to peak for certain tournaments.
I am sure they do. But from the Articles on the website, it seems there is a certain bit missing from these aspects. But results matter and they had an all ENG XD final, so they can't be doing that bad. We suffer from the same fate as Malaysia though that our hopes are pinned on just one or two players. Gail Emms/Donna Kellogg in WD/XD and Robertson/Blair/Clark in XD and MD for the latter two. There is no depth. The 2nd pairs are nowhere. All the above players are reaching 30 aswell.
The 5-Minute Interview: Gail Emms, Olympic athlete 'I turn everything into a catastrophe' Published: 30 January 2007 Ranked as World No 1 with Nathan Robertson in mixed doubles badminton, Gail Emms, 29, will compete in the English National Badminton Championships in Manchester on 2 February. If I weren't talking to you right now I'd be ... Training. I train twice a day five days a week and once on Saturday or Sunday. I feel confident about the championships. I haven't lost for five years. I feel like it's my title and I don't want anyone to take it away from me. A phrase I use far too often is ... "Oh my God". I can be a bit of a drama queen. I turn everything into a catastrophe. I should be in Hollywood. I'm wasted here in Milton Keynes. I wish people would take more notice of ... Minority sports. We [England sports teams and athletes] have so much success in non-mainstream sports. People say we are so rubbish at cricket, rugby and football but if you look at rowing, sailing, cycling, gymnastics and badminton we've got world champions. A common misperception of me is ... That I'm a blonde little girl and people think I am going to be all bubbly and fluffy. I can beat most of the guys at sprinting and squat thrusts and lots of physical tests. I am actually quite feisty. I am not a politician but ... I can't wait for the smoking ban to come in. I am so excited. I cannot see how they haven't done it already. I hate that feeling when you come home and you can smell it on you. I'm good at... Hosting parties. I like being "the hostess with the most-ess". I feel like queen bee.. I'm very bad at ... Accounts and tax and all that. I give it to my mum. Sara Newman
